Giselle Sanchez expressed regret for her portrayal of the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino in the 2022 film Maid in Malacañang, directed by Darryl Yap.

During her recent interview on Long Conversation: The Men’s Room by One News, the actress-host also reacted to remarks reminding her that she is a University of the Philippines graduate.

“Pinagsisihan ko ‘yan. Kasi sabi nila, ‘Giselle, UP ka, ba’t mo ginawa ‘yon?’” she aired.

It is worth noting that Sanchez took a Mass Communications course at UP Diliman, where she graduated magna cụm laude.

“Hindi ko inisip, eh,” she opened up. “Sana inisip ko nga naman taga-UP ako. Sana inisip ko ‘yong bansa ko bago ko tinanggap ‘yon. Kasi inisip ko lang, artista ako.”

As per Sanchez, she even cried over the bashing she received because of the controversial film.

In 2020, Ballsy Aquino-Cruz responded to a query made by Philstar Life on her reaction to the mahjong scene in the movie. The said scene in MIM depicted Aquino to be playing mahjong with nuns during the revolution.

The daughter of the late former president said that her mother never played mahjong during EDSA Revolution nor even during her presidency. She further clarified that Aquino did not play mahjong after her lola passed away in 1985.

“Mom NEVER PLAYED MAHJONG during EDSA — I can’t imagine how she could have — and her presidency.”

The Carmelite sisters of Cebu have also slammed the mahjong scene in the much-talked-about film, Rappler reported.

Giselle Sanchez, born on May 4, 1975 as Giselle Bernasol Sanchez-Buencamino, is an actress and television host. She is known for her roles in movies “Filemon Mamon”, “ZsaZsa Zaturnnah Ze Moveeh” and “Manay Po!”

In a previous report, Giselle Sanchez asked for understanding from everyone because of her role in the movie Maid in Malacañang. The actress admitted that her role in the movie was very controversial and that she might get bashed because of it. She reminded everyone, however, that she’s only an actress who will play any role given to her. She also said that she accepted the movie offer blindly without knowing what her role would be in the film.

In 2020, Giselle Sanchez and her spouse renewed their wedding vows after two decades of “blissful” marriage. The actress and TV personality shared this important update about her life in a social media post. She furthermore posted photos to give a glimpse of their renewal of vows ceremony and thanked the people behind it. Her husband likewise posted about their garden wedding along with throwback photos from their first wedding.
