It’s the end of an era for the Kapamilya Network and its fandom in the love team department with the recent confirmation of Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano breakup. Although the amiable uncoupling happened almost three years ago, according to Liza, many followers and fans were still saddened just like in the previous break ups of James Reid and Nadine Lustre, and of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo.

Appearing on a podcast-documentary that was uploaded on YouTube on August 14, Soberano also revealed that that she had hoped to marry Gil, whom she described as her “real first boyfriend” and “first love.”

“Nothing bad happened. Our breakup was really good. It was just, we weren’t a match anymore,” Soberano said.

“I carry a lot of guilt for not being the one [who] held on, because that’s what my fans wanted to do. But also, I needed to find myself and grow, too,” she added.

Soberano and Gil, collectively known as LizQuen, were among ABS-CBN’s most popular tandem until she left the country to pursue her Hollywood dreams. They have headlined hit TV series and movies like “Forevermore,” “Alone/Together,” “Dolce Amore,” “My Ex and Whys,” “Everyday I Love You,” “Just The Way You Are,” “Bagani,” and “Make It With You.”

This once-young love team also had their share of controversy that became widely publicized. The core of the issue was said to have revolved around the alleged third-party involvement by the handsome actor with his then perennial co-star. This led to the breakdown of the tandem’s personal and professional relationship, fueled by accusations of jealousy and miscommunication.

It was also reported that the actress nearly hit the actor with her speeding car in a fit of anger. Witnesses said it was deliberate and the actor was only saved by luck. If he failed to miss the actress’s rage, he could have ended up dead as a victim of a hit-and-run. And the actress, of course, could have ended her blossoming career and would have languished in jail for her deed. Good thing, cooler heads intervened.
