Tory Lanez shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the summer of 2020 has been one of the most polarizing crimes in the social media era of hip-hop history. And it continues to be, nearly four years after the incident and over a year after the Canadian rap-crooner was convicted in December of 2022. Even a guilty verdict hasn’t stopped some pretty big names in the rap game from giving Tory support.

Tory Lanez’s former nemesis Drake has showed love to Tory on multiple occasions. Back in August of 2023, Drizzy got backlash for liking an Instagram post Tory released from jail where he refused to take accountability for shooting Megan. In February of 2024, Drake put up a message about freeing Tory on Instagram. He even appeared to imply she lied about getting shot on the Her Loss track “Circo Loco.”

“This b***h lie ’bout getting shots, but she still a stallion/She don’t even get the joke, but she still smiling,” Drake raps on the song, which did not go unnoticed by Megan.

Meek Mill has also hopped on the “Free Tory Lanez” train. During Meek’s performance at Rolling Loud Portugal 2023, he yelled “Free Tory Lanez.” People blasted Meek for the shout-out on social media, which prompted a response from the Dream Chasers boss on online.

On the contrary, there are some rappers who have vocally been in Megan’s corner. In January of 2023, a month after Tory was convicted, Soulja Boy blasted the rap community for not supporting Megan.

“Yall ni***s out here shooting b****es and ain’t nobody gone say nothing? I’m the only n***a in the whole rap game that’s gonna say something? Ok, cool,” SB said in an Instagram Live video. “Well, Tory Lanez you a b***h,” he said. “You a b***h n***a on me. Y’all watched this n***a shoot this b***h and everybody said, ‘He ain’t do it.’ Man, f**k yall lame a*s n***as.”

50 Cent has also had a change of heart, after being skeptical of Megan’s story initially.

Fivio Foreign

After tweeting out a simple “Free Tory” on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Jan. 29, Fivio Foreign doubled down on his stance regarding Tory Lanez’s conviction just about a week later. During an interview on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast on Feb. 5, Fivio expressed his loyalty to Tory while at the same time implying that he doesn’t think Megan Thee Stallion was actually shot at all.

“I f**k with Tory,” Fivio Foreign said. “I know Tory as a real person. In my eyes, I don’t even know Tory for even having guns. I don’t see him as that type of person.”

He adds: “I wasn’t there and I’m not a lawyer or no scientist, but if somebody say they got shot, and there’s no hole in they body, they didn’t get shot. We all know that. But, you know how this s**t go.”

Meek Mill

Meek Mill took the opportunity to show support for Tory Lanez in grand fashion in July of 2023. During a headlining performance at last summer’s 2023 Rolling Loud Festival in Portugal, Meek performed his 2016 platinum-certified collab with Tory, “Litty.” As the song came to an end, the Philadelphia rhymer addressed the raucous crowd by screaming, “That was f**king lit. Free Tory Lanez, too, one time.”

In the days that followed, Meek Mill addressed the backlash he faced for the pro-Tory statement by explaining that he often shows support for incarcerated rappers and will continue to do so.

“I say free young thug … free lucci … free melly,” Meek posted to Instagram’s Threads in response to his “Free Troy Lanez” comment. “I don’t even know why y’all start dealing with us if y’all gone try to smear us …. That’s why I stick to the trenches.”

He added: “Why do y’all think y’all can control us we got millions and real man influence not internet tricks!”

Chris Brown is another high-profile artist who seems to be of the belief that Tory Lanez should be a free man despite his conviction for the 2020 Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident. When Tory’s name came up during Breezy’s conversation with streamer Adin Ross on Jan. 29, Chris Brown immediately said, “Free my boy, man. He a solid dude. I f**k with Tory.”

Drake

After squashing his long-running beef with Tory Lanez back in 2017, Drake has spoken out about his fellow Canadian’s incarceration multiple times since Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in late 2022. In August of last year, Drizzy liked a statement Tory posted to Instagram in which Lanez refused to take responsibility for the shooting. Despite a heavy amount of backlash Drake faced for the social media interaction, his apparent loyalty to Tory Lanez has been unwavering.

In the most recent instance, Drake hit up his Instagram Story in February of 2024 with a photo of Tory along with a caption that reads, “3 You,” which is commonly known as a slang term for “free you.”
