The Trey Lance and San Francisco 49ers saga was all over the place since the beginning of this offseason. The 49ers drafted Lance third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. Since then the quarterback from North Dakota State University played in only 8 games for the San Francisco-based team. After a torrid start to this year’s preseason, the 49ers, in a not-so-shocking move, traded Lance to the Cowboys for a fourth-round pick.
Now the question is why did the Cowboys trade for a quarterback when they already have their QB room sorted? Lance’s arrival in Dallas puts some pressure on starting QB Dak Prescott, who had a poor 2022 season. Former NFL quarterback and current NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky had some thoughts about this situation and voiced them on the latest segment of the ESPN show First Take.
Apparently, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones did not consult his franchise quarterback before trading for Lance. Orlovsky said that this decision was ‘stupid’. “To make this move and not tell Dak Prescott or the coach is stupid,” Orlovsky said on the show. “I do not disagree with the move from Dallas, I understand the why of the move. The situation matters everything to me. One, Dak Prescott has missed 17 games in the last three years, two, he is coming off his worst season throwing 17 interceptions, three, his contract hit is $60 million for the next season and four, the last two times we’ve watched this team lose in the playoffs, they’ve scored 29 total points. Because of all these variables attached to the situation with Dak Prescott, he’s earned the right for you to tell him what you’re gonna do”
“That’s a first round talent… we’re going to welcome him as we do any teammate… hopefully he makes us better.. i know he’s a great kid”

Prescott will be the starting quarterback this year for the Cowboys, but after a poor last season, the pressure will be there on his shoulders to perform. And with the addition of a first-round talent on the roster, Prescott will be under duress the entire season. The Cowboys begin their season against the New York Giants on September 10.
Dak Prescott had some advice for Trey Lance before his draft in 2021

Dak Prescott and Trey Lance will play together in the NFL this season. The Dallas Cowboys made a bold move and traded for Lance in exchange for a fourth-round pick. The spotlight will be on the pair’s relationship and how it progresses as the season goes on. The two have interacted before actually. Before the 2021 NFL Draft, in which Lance was selected third overall by the San Francisco 49ers, they had a conversation with each other.
On an episode of Bitches Love Sports Podcast, Lance asked for some advice from the veteran QB. Prescott talked about the mental side of things and recommended Lance to get enough sleep. “Please use me as a resource,” Prescott told Lance at the end.
A couple of years ago, in advance of Trey Lance entering the NFL, Dak Prescott gave Lance a few pieces of advice to help him along his journey.

Now Lance will back up Prescott in Dallas. Prescott will be under pressure to perform as the Cowboys have a pretty good QB room. He had a bad 2022 season and will hope to improve and have a good season for the Cowboys. They play their first game against the New York Giants in week 1.
