Fun times ahead, CARATs. One of the most beloved actresses of this generation—yes, that’s Kathryn Bernardo—just followed one of (if not the) hottest third-gen K-pop idols, Mingyu of SEVENTEEN. And no, this is not a drill.

Although no one can be sure when and why Kath followed Mingyu (who is just a year younger than her BTW), everyone’s still giddy about what we can now call “Kath-Mingyu crumbs.” And so obviously, people were posting and screaming about it over the night.

It was one of the fan accounts dedicated to Kath who first discovered the interaction between the actress and the K-pop idol. As far as we can remember, Kath and Mingyu have never attended the same event. So this is a rare occurrence for Kath who appears not to be much of a K-pop girlie. The fan noted, “huy followed ni kathryn si mingyu sa instagram!!!!!!! if y’all know kathryn ang rare nito kasi bukod sa blackpink hindi naman into kpop si teh GWJSSHAHAHAA KINIKILIG AKO.” (Yup, this Kath-Mingyu interaction caused a lot of keyboard smashing from stans of both celebrities.)

Anyway, true enough, we did some digging into the accounts that Kath follows on Instagram. Aside from of course our local celebrities, there were a couple of South Korean celebrities whom she follows like Son Ye Jin, Park Min Young, and also Kim Seon Ho. We assume it’s probably because she has watched their K-dramas (coz who hasn’t?) But as for the K-pop idols, we only saw two other idols aside from Mingyu on her following list and those are Lisa and Rosé of BLACKPINK.

Still, people were doing some mental gymnastics to explain why Kath would have followed Mingyu. Honestly though, maybe some friend influenced her to do so. But there are some fans still trying to find correlations between the two. Their findings? Other than the fact that they are perpetually good-looking, the two were ambassadors for the luxury brand Lancome. Mingyu was announced in 2022, while Kath started promoting the brand in 2024. Cute connection, right?

The Internet Reacts To Kathryn Bernardo Following Mingyu of SEVENTEEN

Sadly, Mingyu hasn’t followed Kathryn back as of writing. But who cares? We think the people of the Internet have spoken. Everybody’s genuinely happy that Kath is one step forward into CARATland, a.k.a. the land of SEVENTEEN fans. (ICYDK, CARATs is the fandom name.) But for now, it’s important to note that gyuldaengies, or in other words Mingyu stans, have welcomed Kath with open arms. TBH, we had a good time scrolling past some of the most hilarious posts ever made just because of one Instagram move from Kath.

TL;DR: Everyone was in high spirits. Some have mentioned their delulu thoughts of Kath and Mingyu having a series together. FYI tho, Mingyu hasn’t been in any formal or official K-dramas as of late.

Coincidentally, Mingyu posted his 2024 dump a few hours after Filipino fans discovered Kath was already following him on Instagram. Random, but yes, he just had the time to finish choosing his best pics of 2024 and he did it in two posts.

Fans threw in their humorous remarks and (again) delulu thoughts connecting Kathryn to Mingyu. Some saw Mingyu’s IG dump as some kind of thirst trap with all the attractive snaps he shared. Interestingly, he posted it after Kath followed him LOL. But hey, we think it’s just pure coincidence, you guys.

Nonetheless, some fans were wary enough not to feed the “wrong audience” with some of their fellow fans’ tweets. Although it might be funny to some, some might just straight up believe it and make a full-blown ship for Kath and Mingyu.

One fan warned, “Guys, please tama niyo na ‘yang mingyu x kathryn agenda niyo kasi it’s getting out of hand already. Tuwang-tuwa kayo ngayon pero kapag napunta sa wrong audience ‘yan or worst gawan ng twisted narrative on tiktok ewan ko na lang paano niyo mapapanindigan ‘yan :)”

Point taken. After all, we should be careful before we post anything on social media these days (!) But to cap it all off, we’re just excited to see if Kath will be a complete CARAT and would follow other SEVENTEEN members too. It’s nice to see a fave admiring another fave of yours.
