The NFL wants Taylor Swift to perform the halftime show at Super Bowl LIX as it could help generate a $1 billion windfall – but the superstar singer wouldn’t be paid a penny if she agreed. It’s claimed Swift rejected a late push to perform at Super Bowl LVIII, where her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs teammates retained the Lombardi Trophy against the San Francisco 49ers, but the NFL is starting talks to try and get her on board next year.

Swift instead elected to watch the recent Super Bowl from a plush executive suite surrounded by friends and family, as the Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime. The 34-year-old wanted to enjoy the game having rushed back from Japan, where she was on her “Eras Tour”.

According to The US Sun, a source has claimed that by Swift performing, the rate for a Super Bowl advert could be boosted by another $1 million, having cost $7.5m last time round. “This year, it has been estimated that her presence helped generate a lot of money, estimated between $700-750 million. If she is the main artist of next year’s halftime show, it’s expected to generate more than $1.3-1.5 billion,” the source told The US Sun.

However, Swift would not see any of that money if she did agree. In fact, whoever performs at the Super Bowl halftime show does not receive a paycheck, as per league policy. All the NFL covers is all costs related to production as well as their travel expenses, but they are not paid for the actual performance.

Another Kansas City appearance in the Super Bowl next year, and a third in a row with a first-ever NFL three-peat on the line, coupled with a Swift performance could see the season’s finale fixture being the “biggest sports event ever broadcasted in America” with viewing figures soaring past 140m.

The Chiefs have the desire to reach New Orleans in the 2024 season, with legendary quarterback Patrick Mahomes eyeing more history with three-straight NFL titles. “It [would be] legendary,” Mahomes said. “No one’s ever done it, and we knew it’s legendary to win back-to-back. I think eight other teams have done it.

“We had heard it all week. We had talked to the guys [who had gone back-to-back] about it, and we felt like we had the best opportunity that we had ever had to go out there and do that. We’ve got to continue to play our best football. We’ll celebrate these next few weeks, and then we’ll get right back at it.”

Swift and Kelce appear to be going from strength to strength too, in a boost to the NFL’s chances of landing the serial Grammy Awards winner. The pair went public last September having spent time getting to know each other outside of the media spotlight.

Kelce will, however, have to stick to some rules allegedly set by Swift, including a Strip Club ban. The couple have also reportedly decided they can spend no longer than two weeks apart as their fairytale romance continues to blossom
