Marvin and Jolina on iconic loveteam and special friendship

Televiewers would probably still remember that Marvin Agustin failed to answer if Jolina Magdangal was his ‘the one who got away’ or TOTGA in our last one-on-one interview with him on ‘Fast Talk With Boy Abunda.’ It was the same question yours truly threw at Jolina when they both made a guest appearance on the show a couple of weeks ago.

Marvin Agustin and Jolina Magdangal, one of the iconic loveteams in the ‘90s, neither confirmed nor denied if their onscreen romance had turned into real-life love.

“Para s’yang ano nag-je-jaywalking lang na tumatawid, naging rollercoaster siya,” briefly described Marvin of their past relationship status.

“And Tito Boy, it’s better for us that it happened that way because there were many (loveteams) who became real sweethearts but then, things turned out sour that they could no longer stand sharing the screen ever again.

“Kaya kami nire-recognize namin na parang blessing na rin ‘yun, at kaya namin to work with each other.”

“Ako, I enjoyed Marvin’s company. We’ve become very, very good friends,” stated Jolina.

Jolina responded in the negative and explained her answer in the context of friendship. “Perhaps, ‘the one’ can be referred to as ‘the special friend.’ I think, no, because he never left. He’s still there whenever I need some company.”

The former onscreen partners reuniting in their latest film, ‘Ex Ex Lovers.’

Marvin couldn’t agree more by saying that theirs is a lasting kind of friendship just like what their recently shown movie “Ex Ex Lovers” displayed through their characters Joy and Ced.

“One of the best relationships is our friendship. Hindi mawawala at maninimbang lagi ‘pag magkaibigan ang isa’t-isa,” he explained.

Asked to share some fond memories of their onscreen romance, Jolina amusingly revealed they would often fight like cats and dogs.

“Parang ngayon ko lang na-realize na napaka-petty lang yung pinagtatampuhan ko kay Marvin. Like those times when I would suddenly stop talking to him because we were partners but he was not always by my side to accompany me.”

Marvin, on the other hand, teased that even though he was not always around during those times, Jolina was always on his mind — a revelation that led people in the studio to scream in romantic excitement.

“Yung kakulitan ni Jolina, ‘yun ang naalala ko pati ‘yung mga away-bati namin na parang aso’t pusa. Mga bata pa talaga,” he quipped.

The pair revealed they were “enemies” while shooting the 1999 film “Hey Babe.”

Jolina and Marvin as an iconic loveteam in the ‘90s.

“I don’t remember any serious fight with him. We finished the movie with ‘tampuhan.’ I couldn’t recall anymore what it was about pero ‘pag sinabing game na sa shooting, kinikilig ako ‘pag nasa scene na (kami),” shared Jolina.

Their shooting in Baguio City for “Labs Kita, Okey Lang” was one unforgettable moment for Marvin.

“Ang ganda ng lugar, malamig, masaya kami lahat at walang uwian doon hindi gaya ‘pag sa Manila (ang shooting),” he shared.

What is it about love that they never knew before?

“Na mag-e-exist pala ‘yung ganitong klase ng love between two people na napaka-sincere. ‘Yung suportahan sa isa’t-isa nandoon at saka ‘yung totoong klase ng pagmamahal na p’wedeng maging forever,” replied Marvin.

Marvin and Jolina also expressed their heartfelt thanks to each other. The latter thanked the former for seeing a different side of her.

“Thank you because you’re seeing something in me that I was expecting for other people to see, but it was you who were able to see it. And it’s very important to me,” stated Jolina.

For his part, Marvin thanked Jolina “dahil ang sarap mo magmahal at ang sarap mo rin mahalin.”

Jolina is married to Rivermaya’s drummer Mark Escueta and they are blessed with two children, Pele Inigo and Vika Anaya.

Marvin, on the other hand, is happily single with twin sons, Sebastian and Santiago, with his ex-girlfriend Tetet Dy.
