The Tragic Truth Chrissy Metz Shared About Her 100-Pound Weight Loss

Chrissy Metz thought she was going to die on her thirtieth birthday. It was not until a wake-up call that Metz got her health in order.

Chrissy Metz is best known for her role as one of the “big three,” Kate Pearson, on the hit show, This Is Us.The NBC show was so popular because it felt real. Metz recognized the realness of the show when she read the role and realized that Kate was her, a woman who battled her weight from the time she was young through adulthood. This constant battle of never being happy with herself caused Kate to never feel good enough and never strive for the dreams she really wanted to achieve, something that Metz could intimately relate to.

Before becoming a household name, Metz was working as a talent agent. While she was good at her job, it was not what Metz wanted to do with her life. She wanted to be an actor. But after being turned down time and time again for roles, Metz became disheartened. This ultimately led Metz to a role working behind the scenes in the entertainment industry.

Manziel was a first-round draft pick for the Cleveland Browns in 2014 and he’s now talking about how he tanked his career.
It was a result of this job, however, that Metz became incredibly ill. Metz’s physical and mental health declined. Eventually, not listening to her body landed Metz in the hospital, which was the catalyst that eventually helped her to get her life in order and lose weight in the process.

Here is the tragic truth Chrissy Metz shared about her 100-pound weight loss and why suffering a panic attack on her birthday led to a wake-up call that resulted in the weight loss.

Right before Metz turned 30, she was working hard as a talent agent. At the time, she was working 70-plus hours a week and was married.

While she had come to California via Florida, after not being able to land roles that paid the bills, the then-aspiring actor found herself working as a talent agent for nine years. While she represented some of the best in the industry, Metz wanted to be in front of the camera, not behind it.

“It was difficult because when you want to do something and you feel like you’re so close, but so far away, that’s how I felt every day,” Metz explained.

“I love rooting for the underdog. I love helping people do what it is that I wanted to do because I have such a passion for TV and film. And it was hard because…what if I’m never getting out of this?”

Throughout her life, Metz had suffered from anxiety. Generally, she could control it. But, on her thirtieth birthday, she was watching a movie and suddenly, she had a panic attack, fhe first one she had ever experienced. She thought she was going to die from it.

“[Aspiring] actor who never made it dies in the ArcLight. This is literally what’s running through my head,” Metz said.

Metz went on to explain how in the days and weeks leading up to the panic attack, her body was trying to tell her that something was wrong. However, she did not listen.

Kelly says she got a scary health diagnosis that made her implement a variety of lifestyle changes.
“My body was starting to tell my mind, ‘You’re unhappy, something’s wrong’, Metz said. “And then my mind started telling my body, ‘Yeah, something is wrong,'” all of which grew to become a panic attack.

The panic attack landed Metz in the hospital. At the time that the palpitations were happening, Metz thought that she was having a heart attack.

Metz saw her life flash before her eyes and thought 30 was the last year she would see on earth.

“I’m like, What is this? Am I dying? What’s happening?” Metz explained. “It was really scary — really, really, really scary.”

Once she was admitted, Metz found out that she was not having a heart attack. Instead, all the anxiety she was carrying around and not dealing with had manifested into a panic attack, which was diagnosed immediately by doctors.

They talked about the extra weight that Metz was carrying and told her that if she did not begin to take healthier measures in her life, the panic attack that she experienced would only be the tip of the iceberg.

“You can’t continue on this path,” Metz said the doctors told her.

She went on to say, “I’m like, ‘Oh, this is not just a physical thing. It’s like a soul/spirit/mind/body collective thing. Not everything’s connecting’.”

It was that lightbulb moment that shifted Metz’s perspective on life and on herself.

Rebel Wilson before and after weight loss

There’s a lot to know about how Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson actually lost weight a few years ago.
“I realized that … at the core of who we are, we’re these perfect beings,” Metz said, “and we’re not taught that.”

It was then that Metz no longer allowed others’ opinions to affect her. As a result of this shift in thinking, Metz’s weight melted off.

With a renewed sense of getting both physically and mentally healthy, Metz began going to therapy to work on why she turned to food for comfort. Metz also joined a 12-Step Program.

This therapy eventually helped Metz to see that she and her husband were not hap

py together. As hard as it was all to go through, Metz became stronger mentally for it and the weight came off with a healthier diet and a bit of exercise.

“I was so gung ho, I lost 100 lbs. in less than five months,” Metz explained to People. “All I did was eat a 2,000-calorie diet and walk 20 minutes a day.”

“So often if something isn’t perfect, we go ‘I quit!’ That’s not conducive to forward progress, and it’s really about progress, not perfection,” Metz said. “If we were perfect, we wouldn’t have anything to attain or achieve.”

Metz went on to say, “It’s peace of mind knowing that I can’t blame other people or make excuses if I’m not happy. Knowing that I feel good because I am being diligent about taking care of myself mentally, physically and emotionally creates self-esteem.”

“Staying consistent and rigorously honest is hard; it’s a daily practice,” Metz stated. “But no one is going to do for me what I need to do for myself.”

Over the years, Metz has continued to work on her mental health and weight loss. When she landed the role on This Is Us, Metz had to lose weight, which led to a change in her mental health.

But by continuing with therapy and using the tools she learned over the years, Metz persevered and became the healthiest version of herself yet.
