For many years, the name James Blanco has been known in Philippine showbiz, especially for his roles in popular TV series. However, a new chapter has begun in his life, not just in his career, but also with his son, Iñigo Jose Blanco. In a heartwarming story of a father’s love and guidance, James shares how his son’s dream to become an actor has finally come true.
Iñigo’s Dream to Enter Showbiz
Iñigo, the eldest son of James, has always had a passion for acting. However, his father was hesitant about letting him enter the showbiz world at such a young age. In a candid interview, James recalls how Iñigo, even as a teenager, expressed his desire to be an actor. “He always told me he wanted to become an actor, but I kept saying, ‘Anak, it’s not really possible yet,’” James shared.
James was wary of the pressures and challenges that come with being a public figure in the entertainment industry. Despite this, Iñigo was persistent and even joined James on taping sets, hoping to get noticed. “When he was just 12, he started showing interest. He’d always join me during taping and even got offers to partner with Althea Ablan on the show Forever Young,” said James, referring to the 2024 GMA-7 afternoon drama.
A Father’s Hesitation
James, who also entered showbiz after starting college, shared how he was unsure about allowing his son to dive into acting so early. “We agreed that he should finish his studies first, as he’s just two years away from graduating with a Management degree from De La Salle University,” James revealed.
Despite the distractions and temptations that the industry offers, James made sure that his son remained focused on his education. However, at the same time, he couldn’t ignore Iñigo’s growing interest in the industry. “Iñigo has been doing commercials even since he was a teenager. He was always being offered roles, but I told him he wasn’t ready yet,” James recalled, emphasizing how he wanted his son to complete his studies first.
The Surprise: Iñigo’s Big Move
James, who initially resisted his son’s entry into showbiz, was shocked when Iñigo surprised him one day while they were at the gym. “He told me, ‘Dad, I’m signing with Star Magic this coming week,’” said James. His son had taken the plunge and signed a contract with one of the Philippines’ top talent management agencies, Star Magic, under ABS-CBN.
James was surprised but couldn’t do anything about it as his son was already signed under another agency, Mercator. Iñigo, now 20 years old and standing at 6-feet-1-inch, has already begun his career with TV commercials and modeling, which helped him build his portfolio in the industry.

The Father’s Support and Fears
While James has fully supported Iñigo’s decision, he admits having concerns. “One of my biggest fears is that he won’t finish his studies. When I entered showbiz, I was in my third year of college, but I never finished because work became overwhelming,” James confided.
Unlike his father, Iñigo is not a breadwinner yet, and James trusts that his son will continue to pursue his education alongside his acting career. “Iñigo is different. He knows how to handle his business even from a young age. I see a lot of myself in him,” James shared, recalling how his son even sold rubber wristbands when he was still in elementary school.
Lessons on Humility and Respect
As a father, James has been guiding Iñigo not only in acting but also in navigating the pressures of the entertainment industry. “I told him, never let the praises go to your head. Keep your humility intact,” James advised. He also emphasized the importance of respecting everyone, from fellow actors to crew members.
James has observed a trend among young stars where they forget basic courtesies, such as greeting senior actors. “I told Iñigo, ‘When you meet senior stars, always introduce yourself. Don’t be shy to greet them. That’s one way to show respect,’” he said, recalling how he personally taught his son, not only in acting but also in sports and even fitness training.
The Proud Father
Now that Iñigo has officially entered showbiz, James couldn’t be prouder. “I’ve seen him grow not just in acting but as a person. I’m supportive of him, and I’ll always be there to guide him,” James concluded.
With the right mindset, education, and respect for others, James believes that his son will not only succeed in showbiz but will also remain grounded despite the pressures that come with the industry. As a father, his role is clear: to provide support, wisdom, and encouragement while his son pursues his dreams.
