Jhong Hilario on earning Master's Degree: 'Sa bawat tagumpay na 'yun, may na-i-inspire kang buhay'

A Dream Beyond the Spotlight

Jhong Hilario, a name synonymous with energy and charisma, has spent decades entertaining audiences. From his early days as a member of the iconic dance group Streetboys to his engaging performances on television, he has always captivated his fans with his versatility. Yet, few knew that beneath his dynamic persona, he harbored a dream of returning to school and furthering his education.

“I always believed that learning doesn’t stop when you leave the classroom,” Hilario shared in an exclusive interview. “It continues in life, in work, and most importantly, in our personal growth.”

Despite his busy schedule juggling television appearances and public service commitments, he enrolled in a Master’s program, proving that determination can break barriers.

The Challenges of Juggling Career and Academics

Balancing a thriving career in entertainment with the rigorous demands of higher education was no easy feat. Hilario admitted that there were days when exhaustion threatened to take over. Studying late at night after taping for It’s Showtime or reviewing for exams while fulfilling his duties as a councilor pushed him to his limits.

“There were times I questioned whether I could do it,” he recalled. “But every challenge reminded me why I started—because I wanted to prove that growth is always possible, no matter the stage in life.”

With unwavering support from his family, friends, and mentors, he pushed forward. His professors, too, played a vital role in guiding him, understanding his unique schedule, and encouraging his passion for learning.

Inspiring Others to Pursue Education

Now, with a Master’s Degree under his belt, Hilario hopes to inspire others to never let circumstances define their dreams.

“I want people to see that if I can do it, so can they. Education is not limited by age, status, or profession. Every success sparks a life-changing inspiration,” he emphasized.

On Instagram, the “It’s Showtime” host shared some highlights from his graduation ceremony through a reel.

In the video, Jhong could be seen accompanied by his wife, Maia Azores, their daughter Sarina, and his mother, Nelita Hilario.

“Ang sarap sa pakiramdam kapag nakakamit mo ang tagumpay,” he said in the caption.

“Pero mas masarap na sa bawat tagumpay na ‘yun ay may na-i-inspire kang buhay,” he added.

Last year, he graduated Magna Cum Laude from Arellano University with a degree in political science. Aside from being an actor, dancer, and the Sample King of “It’s Showtime,” Jhong serves as a councilor for Makati City’s First District.

Jhong joins the list of showbiz personalities who returned to school to earn their degrees despite their age. More artists include Geneva Cruz, Dingdong Dantes, Ruffa Gutierrez, Juancho Trivino, and Bogart the Explorer, among others.
