In the caption, Nikki reflected on the past week’s challenges, describing it as one of the toughest times she and her husband, BJ Albert, have encountered as parents.

Nikki wrote (published as is), “Maddie was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease — something we had never even heard of. And seeing our little girl in pain, hooked to IVs, enduring tests and meds, was the hardest thing we’ve ever gone through as parents. :(”

Amid the fear and uncertainty, Nikki expressed heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of support and the strength they found through faith.

She continued, “But even in the scariest moments, God showed up—in the peace He gave, the people He sent, and the healing He allowed.

“We give Him all the glory for carrying us through and for Maddie’s recovery. [emojis].

“Also so thankful for our village—every message, prayer, meal, visit, and word of encouragement meant the world to us. [emoji]

“And to our amazing medical team, especially Dr. @romeonuguidmd , you were all heaven-sent. [emoji

“We’re finally home with our brave girl, and while recovery continues, our hearts are filled with gratitude. God is so, so, so good. [emoji]”

Nikki ended her post with an update on Maddie’s current condition.

WHAT IS KAWASAKI DISEASE?

According to Mayo Clinic, Kawasaki disease leads to inflammation in small to medium-sized blood vessels, affecting primarily the heart arteries in children.

It’s also referred to as “mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome” due to the related swelling in lymph nodes and mucous membranes in the mouth, nose, eyes, and throat.

According to cdc.gov, this disease primarily affects children under five years old and is more common in boys than girls.

The exact cause of Kawasaki disease remains unknown. But the symptoms include high fever, peeling skin on swollen hands and feet, and red eyes and tongue.

Fortunately, early treatment generally results in recovery without lasting issues.
