“My nanay is among other Hollywood artists and filmmakers who are remembered by the Academy this year,” Andi Eigenmann, daughter of the late veteran actress Jaclyn Jose, announced in an Instagram story.

We may not be Jaclyn’s children, but as Filipinos, we take pride in witnessing her legacy recognized on one of the world’s biggest stages—the 97th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars.

Each year, Hollywood stars are celebrated at this prestigious event, but this time, our very own Jaclyn Jose was included in the Oscars’ “In Memoriam” section that honors artists and filmmakers whose contributions have left a lasting impact on the industry.

“The Academy honors friends and colleagues we lost over the last year. Take a moment to remember the artists and filmmakers we lost in 2024-2025,” it said in a statement.

Jaclyn’s name appeared alongside global icons like Olivia Hussey, known for her role as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet (1968), Gossip Girl actress Michelle Trachtenberg, and the British actress Maggie Smith.

Honoring The Late Jaclyn Jose

The veteran actress passed away in March 2024 due to myocardial infarction (a.k.a. a heart attack). Just days ago, actor Jake Ejercito, father to Andi’s firstborn daughter Ellie Ejercito, paid tribute to Jaclyn on her death anniversary through a Facebook post.

Although she’s no longer with us, Jaclyn’s legacy continues to inspire generations. Starting her career in the 1980s, Jaclyn was known as the “Queen of Underacting” due to her ability to deliver her lines in a subtle yet powerful acting.

Jaclyn was celebrated not only in the Philippines but also on the international stage, earning numerous accolades from FAMASGawad Urian, and the Luna Awards.

She made history as the first Southeast Asian actress to win “Best Actress” at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival for her unforgettable role in Ma’ Rosa, where she portrayed the role of a mother entangled in the harsh realities of the drug trade.
