On Maundy Thursday, April 17, Ian de Leon appeared before the media with his siblings Lotlot, Matet, and Kenneth to confirm their mother’s death. Their statement, delivered with grace and calm, honored the life and legacy of the woman who shaped Philippine cinema.

Ian, acting as the family’s spokesperson, said, “She loved without pretense, she helped without expecting anything in return, and she lived her life with sincerity and authenticity. That’s why she was loved by so many. That’s why she became a legend.”

He added, “Her death was not during the operation, but complications followed afterward. She had difficulty breathing, and it quickly worsened. The medical team did all they could.”

Director Ronaldo Carballo, a close friend of Nora, also confirmed via Facebook that the actress underwent angioplasty on Holy Tuesday, April 15 — just one day after they exchanged messages online.

Nora Aunor passed away peacefully on the night of April 16, surrounded by her children and closest loved ones. Ian’s emotional confirmation of her death underscored the deep respect and love he still held for his mother, despite their complex history.

Her burial will take place at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig, a fitting resting place for a woman who changed the landscape of Philippine cinema forever.
