“My Love Will Make You Disappear” stars Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino celebrated their film’s North American debut by bonding with kababayans and moviegoers in Los Angeles, California at their special screenings and meet-and-greets. Meanwhile, little did KimPau know that the State of California had a little surprise of their own for them!

During their trip to the United States, Kim and Paulo personally accepted certificates of recognition from the California State Assembly for their remarkable work in the film industry. The distinctions were dated March 29 and signed by California 65th district assemblymember Mike A. Gipson.

Kim and Paulo’s certificates read: “On behalf of the California State Assembly, it gives me great pleasure to commend you for your invaluable contributions to the world of cinema and your role in highlighting Asian artistic excellence internationally.”

“Best wishes and continued success in the entertainment industry,” Gipson wrote. “Maraming Salamat!”

On its Philippine premiere last March 26, “My Love Will Make You Disappear” received the highest opening-day gross for a local film in 2025. The movie then opened to $200,000 at the North American box office. As of Monday, March 31, the KimPau starrer hit the P100 million mark in box office sales worldwide.

“My Love Will Make You Disappear” also marks Kim and Paulo’s foray into the big screen as a tandem, as well as Chad Vidanes’ first feature-length film as director.

From a story by Prime Cruz and a corresponding screenplay written by scriptwriters Isabelle Policarpio and Patrick Valencia, “My Love Will Make You Disappear” follows Sari (Kim Chiu) as she swears off romance after all the men she’s ever loved have vanished. Sari’s curse is challenged by Jolo (Paulo Avelino), who takes it as an opportunity to escape his own problems.
