Kris Aquino has just a few trusted people in her life — and that includes her friend Dindo Balares, a publicist and former tabloid entertainment editor.

Balares has seen Aquino in her prime years, when everything she said was news, and now in her quiet life with health issues.

After retiring from showbiz writing, Balares, who now calls himself a “farmer,” would post updates about the Queen of All Media on Facebook so that her devoted fans could see if there were any new developments regarding Aquino’s health.

He recently revealed that Aquino stayed in a private resort for 10 days, eating organic food prepared by him, because she misses Balares’ homemade meals.

“Nakita mo na ang kalbaryo ko, Kuya Dindo,” Aquino told Balares, which he shared on his Facebook page along with a photo of Aquino wearing a pink shirt and not looking like the full-of-life host that people used to see.

Balares further emphasized that Aquino did not stay in Caramoan, despite speculations, noting, “May kumakalat palang usap-usapan sa Bicol na nasa Caramoan daw si Kris Aquino.”

Aquino told Balares, “You were asking me what I believe sets me apart — it’s because I can laugh at the weirdest things that come popping out of my mouth.”

She added, “When you can laugh at yourself, winner ka na because having the ability to take life and all its quirks is what keeps one from getting too full of herself. My mom and dad had that. And thank God I also inherited it.”

She then vulnerably shared with Balares how much she misses her old self and how much it hurts.

“Tinamaan ako, kuya Dindo. People do not realize how much I miss the old me,” Aquino said, reacting to viral video.

“But I am human and it hurts so much,” she added.

Balares concluded: “Natulala na lang ako. ‘Di malaman kung ano ang isasagot.”

Aquino’s publicist and friend would often share encouraging words and prayers on Facebook, with one of his prayers being for Aquino’s complete healing. He has protected Aquino in the majority of her controversies, but he is praying for her health this time.
