The year has only just begun, and already it’s hard to imagine how anything in the next 10 months is going to top this showbiz scandal.

Actor Matteo Guidicelli, 29, allegedly punched a bodyguard hired by the family of his now-wife Sarah Geronimo during their civil wedding last night at The Shangri-La at the Fort Hotel in Taguig City.

Jerry Tamara, 31, reported to the Taguig City police this morning that Guidicelli punched him in the throat in the middle of the actor’s wedding to the 31-year-old Sarah, one of the Philippines’ most popular singers.

Tamara said Guidicelli became furious at him when Divine Geronimo, Sarah’s mother, unexpectedly showed up at the wedding at about 11pm, CNN Philippines reports.

Divine, long-rumored to be a controlling stage mother, wanted to speak with Sarah because she had been unaware that her daughter was getting married that night, ABS-CBN News reports. Guidicelli allegedly attacked Tamara because the latter was the one who told Divine about the wedding.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that Divine and her husband, Delfin Geronimo, were against their daughter’s decision to wed Guidicelli.

Tamara was allegedly hired by Divine and Delfin to watch over Sarah’s activities closely after their daughter and Guidicelli announced their engagement in November.

Although he reported the alleged assault to the police, Tamara did not file any formal charges against Guidicelli.
