Judy Araneta Roxas, the mother of former senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, has passed away at the age of 91.
“We are very sad to share that our mother Judy Araneta Roxas passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by family and loved ones. Please include her in your prayers,” Mar said in a social media post on Tuesday.
Judy was born on July 31, 1934.
She was the eldest of the three children of Ester Araneta and Jesus Amado Araneta, the founder of the Araneta Group.
Married in 1955, Judy is the widow of former Sen. Gerardo “Gerry” Roxas.
She is also the mother of former Capiz 1st District Rep. Gerardo “Dinggoy” Roxas Jr., who died in 1993.
Judy is the vice chairman of the Araneta Group and the president of J. Amado Araneta Foundation, Inc., the social development arm of the company.
She is also the president of the Gerry Roxas Foundation, which was founded by her husband in 1958, and the President Manuel A. Roxas Foundation.
In 1987, Judy was bestowed the Papal Award by Pope John Paul II.
She is also the first recipient of the Benigno S. Aquino Award for Nationalism.
