Rhian Ramos is commiserating with her boyfriend Sam Verzosa in his mayoral bid in Manila, saying the young politician was disappointed about letting his supporters down.

Verzosa, a representative of the Tutok to Win party-list, lost to Manila Mayor-elect Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso by a huge margin in the May 12 elections, with the latter receiving 529,507 votes.

Incumbent mayor Honey Lacuna ranked second, while Verzosa placed third with 190,315 votes and 164,047 votes, respectively. Trailing behind are Raymond Bagatsing and Michael Say.

Touching on her boyfriend’s loss on the June 13 episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,” Ramos said she is a “bit heartbroken” about his loss, as she didn’t want to see her significant other down.

“I have to say that I was a bit heartbroken for him because when you love someone, you don’t want them to be in pain. You don’t want to see them sad, and I was scared that he might get brokenhearted about it,” she said.Rhian Ramos admits Sam Verzosa cried after failed election bid | PEP.ph

The “Sang’gre” star also shared that Verzosa privately cried about his loss to her, while reiterating that he has the right to feel upset. She, however, clarified that he was sad that he let the people close to him down.

“He had a good cry about it, but it’s understandable. He has every right to cry for himself for all the effort he poured into the campaign. He worked very hard every day,” she said.

Ramos said Verzosa’s loss made him “more handsome” in her eyes, especially as he immediately buckled down to work to cope with the results of the elections.

Touching on Verzosa’s experience in Manila’s mayoral race, mainstay host Boy Abunda asked Ramos if she is open to joining politics, to which she said she doesn’t want to.

“Before. I said that I didn’t want to. I changed my mind— don’t ever want to. I really don’t want to be a part of it. It makes me sad. I don’t know. Based on what I’ve seen and experienced, I feel like politics is a system that might work against you,” she said.

Ramos has long been supportive of Verzosa’s mayoral bid, and was constantly seen helping the latter throughout his campaign despite her busy schedule. She said on the sidelines of an event in November 2023 that she is open to being the “first Lady of Manila.”

The actress, who is set to star as Mitena in “Sang’gre,” confirmed her relationship with the businessman in 2022.
