Kim Chiu, Paulo Avelino reflect how their partnership evolved through the years

Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino reflected on how their onscreen partnership has evolved over the years.

In an interview with Variety, KimPau recalled the first time that they worked together on the series Linlang.

“My first impression of Paulo is he’s the kind of guy that doesn’t really talk, and my personality is really loud,” Kim recounted.

The actress admitted that she was unsure if Paulo would be comfortable with her energetic nature.

“I’m quite nervous if he’s OK with a co-worker that’s very lovely, funny, out loud, always there,” she shared.

Paulo acknowledged that their initial interactions were a bit awkward, especially given the intense nature of their roles.

“It was kind of awkward because the roles were totally different. I think it’s one of Kim’s first roles as well on the more mature side,” he recalled.

As the production of the series progressed, their connection grew stronger.

“Eventually, like halfway through the shoot, we’d already start having lunch together on the set with our directors and the crew,” Paulo said.

After Linlang, Kim and Paulo starred in the Philippine adaptation of What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim? This March, both are set to star in the Star Cinema film My Love Will Make You Disappear.

“I think it’s an escape of what you’re dealing with right now, to watch a feel-good movie,” Kim said on how the movie aims to bring joy to the audiences.

Their partnership has also contributed to Kim’s growth as an actress. She previously revealed how working alongside Paulo challenged her to elevate her craft.

“Parang there’s always something new ‘pag nakatrabaho mo ang isang Paulo Avelino. Kasi very dedicated siya so mahihiya ka kung hindi mo iibahin. Kasi nag-iba siya eh. ‘Yung iba ‘yung atake niya. Kasi parang na-pu-push ka to be a better actor kapag katrabaho mo siya. Adjust acting tayo. Lumevel tayo sa isang Paulo Avelino. Adjust na adjust na nga eh (laughs),” she said in an interview at the press conference of the movie.

After starring in various projects, Kim remarked that their partnership has grown immensely.

“Tatlong projects na naman kasi pinagsamahan namin tapos na-experience na din namin ang iba’t ibang klase ng intensity ng pag-arte. Nagiging close talaga kayo pag nagkakasama talaga kayo sa project,” she stated.
