Kathryn Bernardo won her first FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Awards) award for her portrayal in the 2023 black comedy thriller film A Very Good Girl. The FAMAS Awards 2024, the award-giving body’s 72nd edition, was held on May 26 at the Fiesta Pavilion of Manila Hotel.

On Instagram, the box office queen expressed how thankful she is for the award, writing, ‘AVGG — our baby and a project so close to my heart.😌 Philo/Mercy, thank you for letting me step into your shoes! TEAM AVGG, this one’s for you! Maraming Salamat, Famas.’

In A Very Good Girl, Kathryn plays the role of Philo/Mercy, who crafts a revenge plan against ‘Mother’ Molly Suzara, a glamorous retail tycoon who’s actually a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing.

In her acceptance speech, Kathryn began, ‘Unang-una, ang bigat pala ng trophy niyo. It’s my first.’

Looking elegant in a white voluminous halter dress by Vania Romoff, Kathryn continued, ‘This is my first. Thank you so much po, FAMAS. Nu’ng tinanggap ko ang pelikulang A Very Good Girl, hindi naman po ako nag-e-expect ng any awards or recognitions. Tinanggap ko ang proyektong ito dahil naniwala po ako sa materyal at nagtiwala ako sa mga kasama ko. Siguro umaapaw lang po ‘yung saya kasi nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na gumawa ng ganitong klaseng pelikula, at minahal at sinuportahan siya ng mga tao. So maraming, maraming salamat po.’

Looking at her first FAMAS trophy, Kathryn went on, saying, ‘This movie, A Very Good Girl, is a product of hard work, love, and passion. So, maraming salamat sa lahat ng sumuporta, sa lahat ng nagbigay ng oras, at sa lahat ng nagmahal sa pelikula namin. Sana sa lahat ng Mercy at Philo sa mundo, sana nabigyan ko kayo lahat ng boses.

‘And of course, gusto ko rin i-share ang award na ito sa lahat ng bumubuo ng A Very Good Girl. My Star Cinema family; my co-actor, Ms. Dolly de Leon; our director, Petersen Vargas. Oh my god, Pete! We did it! At sa lahat ng sumuporta at sumusuporta sa’kin hanggang ngayon, maraming, maraming salamat. Your very good girl is a very happy girl tonight. Thank you so much, FAMAS! Earlier this month, Kathryn was also named Box Office Queen at the 2024 Box-Office Entertainment Awards for A Very Good Girl. She won alongside her Hello, Love, Goodbye co-star Alden Richards, recognized as Box Office King for the movie Five Breakups and a Romance.

Kathryn and Alden will star in the sequel of their blockbuster film titled Hello, Love, Again, which will be released in cinemas on November 13, 2024.
