The EDSA people power revolution has often been associated to the sacrifices of the prominent Aquino family.

In this year’s 34th anniversary of the 1986 popular revolt, Kris Aquino openly talked about her family, saying they never claimed to be perfect.

“We never claim perfection- i know very well our flaws (sa dalas nung iba ipaalala ba naman?) pero ngayon sana mas malinaw sa inyo na sa pamilya namin, dahil sa tindi ng mga napagdaanan, (isang buong libro po ang mula nagkamalay ako hanggang umuwi kami from Boston),” she wrote on Instagram on EDSA Day.

But Kris said she and her family continued to love and support each other after surviving many challenges in life.

“COME WHAT MAY, we LOVE & SUPPORT each other because LIFE taught US #FAMILY is all we have, values our children now uphold.” she said.

Kris also remembered her childhood during martial law, including how the assassination of her father Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. put permanent scars in her heart.

She said she family endured “strip search” whenever visiting Ninoy in detention.

“Nung simula ng Martial Law kahit ako na not even 2 yrs old, kailangan ring maghubad, like my mom and sisters, ng lahat ng damit, sa kanila maliban sa underwear, ako hanggang sa lampin, during the ‘strip search’ in the early years, para lang maka dalaw kami sa Dad namin,” she said.

She said she and her sisters never engaged in sports or became active in after school activities since they took the opportunity to be with their father.

“None of us girls got into sports or became active in after school activities because from 1972 to 1980- Wednesday afternoons, excused sa klase; Saturdays until after lunch; and Sundays from lunch until sunset, nasa Fort Bonifacio kami, sa Dad namin na nakakulong in solitary confinement,” she said.

She said early memories included the death sentence ordered by a military court against her dad.

“1 of my 1st memories as a child is this military court w/ this bald, scary general sentencing my dad to die by FIRING SQUAD,” she said.

Ad when Ninoy was shot dead, Kris admitted that the tragedy has scarred her.

“Tanungin nyo rin please ang sarili nyo, 12 years old ka in Boston at ang confirmation na in-assassinate ang tatay mo, yung video sa CNN na duguan sya sa tarmac— our childhood memories won’t they leave permanent scars in your heart?” she asked.
