Businessman Wang Xiaofei and his mother have caused an uproar, protesting the ban imposed by social media platforms.
On February 8, businessman Wang Xiaofei – the ex-husband of Barbie Hsu – and his mother, Zhang Lan, were permanently banned from livestreaming on Douyin (China’s TikTok). The reason? They were found exploiting the death of a celebrity for personal gain, violating ethical standards and community guidelines. Besides Douyin, Weibo also issued a livestreaming ban on Zhang Lan’s account.
This means Wang Xiaofei and his mother have lost their main source of income—selling products online via livestreams, which has been their primary business in recent years.
Wang Xiaofei Loses Control, Confronts TikTok China CEO
After facing heavy sanctions, Wang Xiaofei reportedly went into a rage in a private group chat comprising 374 elite Chinese businesspeople, including TikTok China CEO Zhou Shuzi.
According to leaked screenshots, Wang Xiaofei, without hesitation, directly tagged Zhou Shuzi in the chat, demanding: “I ask you, why did you ban my account?”
Seeing his public outburst in a professional group, many other businesspeople had to step in to calm him down.
Former Husband of Barbie Hsu Explodes in Anger, Former Mother-in-Law Protests
Wang Xiaofei was revealed to have lost his temper, confronting TikTok China’s CEO in front of hundreds of business executives.
Meanwhile, TikTok China Vice President Li Liang responded to the media, confirming that Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan’s accounts were banned due to repeated violations of community standards, despite previous warnings.
Zhang Lan Reacts Strongly, Calls Ban Unfair
Zhang Lan also reacted furiously to her permanent ban from all Chinese social media platforms. Speaking to the press, she declared, “I do not agree and do not accept this decision.”
She demanded that Douyin specify which regulations she had violated, arguing that penalties should not be imposed arbitrarily based on public opinion without clear reasons or evidence. She emphasized that her company employs many staff members, and Douyin’s sanctions affect not only her but also her employees and their families.
Zhang Lan Accused of Exploiting Barbie Hsu’s Death
Regarding accusations of spreading false news about Barbie Hsu’s passing, Zhang Lan denied any involvement with the social media accounts that circulated fake information. However, she admitted to “liking” a video that falsely claimed Wang Xiaofei had hired a private jet to bring Barbie Hsu’s ashes back to China.
She insisted that she had not shared or spread the post and had not verified the video’s accuracy before interacting with it. Zhang Lan further explained that she frequently likes netizens’ comments and cannot keep track of every video she interacts with.
Moving to International TikTok to Bypass the Ban
According to iFeng, despite being banned from Chinese social media, Zhang Lan has already created an account on international TikTok to continue her livestream sales. This move has sparked heavy criticism, with many mocking her as “shameless” and “lacking any sense of dignity.”
Wang Family’s “Circus” of Exploiting Barbie Hsu’s Death Sparks Outrage
After Barbie Hsu’s family confirmed her passing on February 3, Wang Xiaofei and his family repeatedly used her death to attract public attention and boost their reputation.
Wang Xiaofei staged dramatic scenes portraying himself as a grieving ex-husband—crying sorrowfully, walking alone in the rain, and kneeling on the street to showcase his “deep mourning.” Meanwhile, his mother Zhang Lan livestreamed while selling products, discussing Barbie Hsu’s passing in an insensitive manner.
Additionally, Zhang Lan and her godson, Xia Xiaojian, spread rumors that Wang Xiaofei had arranged a private jet to transport Barbie Hsu’s ashes and that her husband, Koo Jun Yup, had purchased 21 life insurance policies to profit from her death.
Barbie Hsu’s Family and Husband Demand Respect
Seeing the Wang family’s blatant exploitation of Barbie Hsu’s passing, Koo Jun Yup and the actress’s family publicly demanded that her ex-husband and his mother stop their antics and let her rest in peace.
Even Chinese media have called out Wang Xiaofei for his staged grief, exposing his attempts to manipulate public sentiment.
