Before passing away at the age of 48 due to pneumonia, Barbie Hsu and her ex-husband, businessman Wang Xiaofei, had an unresolved lawsuit regarding child support.

According to HK01, Barbie Hsu (also known as “Big S”) and Wang Xiaofei reached a divorce settlement through mediation at the Taipei Court (Taiwan, China) in November 2021. As per the appendix attached to the mediation record, the Beijing businessman was required to pay child support to the Meteor Garden actress on the first day of every three months, starting from December 1, 2021, until March 1, 2038. The amount Wang Xiaofei had to transfer to his ex-wife was 3 million NTD (approximately 1 million NTD per month, equivalent to 30,418 USD/month).

However, from March 2022, the businessman, born in 1981, stopped providing financial support for his children. Subsequently, Barbie Hsu filed for the enforcement of asset seizure against Wang Xiaofei, citing his failure to fulfill the agreed-upon child support payments.

Wang Xiaofei argued that he had not violated the payment obligations stated in the mediation record, but the Taipei Court disagreed. According to the court, Wang Xiaofei was required to pay 9 million NTD (274,000 USD) in child support for the period from March 1 to September 1, 2022. However, he had only paid 1.5 million NTD (45,600 USD), leaving an outstanding debt of 7.5 million NTD (228,000 USD). This confirmed that Barbie Hsu’s claims were justified.

In March 2023, the first-instance court ruled in favor of Barbie Hsu, but Wang Xiaofei refused to accept the verdict and appealed to a higher court. Since then, the two parties have appeared in court multiple times as summoned. A court session was scheduled for February 27.

Currently, with Barbie Hsu’s unfortunate passing, it remains uncertain whether the scheduled court date will change. However, the higher court declared that since Barbie Hsu had legal representation, the lawsuit would not automatically be dismissed upon her death. Her heirs, including her husband DJ Koo and her children, must continue with the legal proceedings until a final ruling is made. As the children are still minors, DJ Koo will assume the role of the plaintiff in place of his late wife.

As the legal successor, DJ Koo will represent Barbie Hsu in completing the legal process against Wang Xiaofei.

According to the latest information, Barbie Hsu’s cremation has been completed in Japan. Her mother, Huang Chunmei, is expected to return to Taiwan (China) on February 4 to handle her daughter’s funeral arrangements.

DJ Koo and Dee Hsu remain in Japan to finalize the necessary procedures. They plan to bring the late actress’s ashes back to her homeland on February 6.

Regarding the transportation of ashes, most airlines in Taiwan only handle them as cargo. However, China Airlines and EVA Air allow families to carry the ashes as hand luggage or purchase a separate seat for them.
