Enzo Pineda Goes Bold in “Malamaya”—Strips Down for Intimate Scenes with Sunshine Cruz!

Enzo Pineda, known for his wholesome image since his stint as first runner-up in StarStruck 5, takes on his most daring role yet in the Cinemalaya film Malamaya. The actor, breaking away from his usual “good boy” roles, stars alongside veteran actress Sunshine Cruz in a steamy May-December romance that showcases his willingness to push his boundaries as an artist.

“I’ve reached a point where I feel ready to prove that I’m a serious actor,” Enzo shared. “Enough of the typical ‘good guy’ roles—I need to explore and challenge myself.”

A Bold Transformation

Enzo’s role in Malamaya is undoubtedly his most provocative yet. Having posed for print ads in just his underwear before, this time, he fully immerses himself in the role, even appearing completely nude in one scene.

“I don’t know how my parents will react,” he admitted. “I told them about it, reassuring them that Malamaya is an artistic film, not vulgar. There’s a scene where I’m shown butt naked, but it’s done tastefully.”

To prepare for his role, Enzo worked hard on his physique, especially focusing on leg workouts to ensure he looked his best for the nude scenes. “When I read the script, I got excited. This is Cinemalaya, and as an actor, I must be ready for anything. I wanted to exceed expectations.”

The Challenges of Filming Intimate Scenes

Despite his initial confidence, Enzo quickly realized that filming sensual scenes was more challenging than expected.

“At first, I thought, ‘I got this.’ But after multiple takes, I started feeling self-conscious. I even told Sunshine how difficult it was! There were moments when I had to walk around with nothing on, but I reminded myself that if I want to be a great actor, I must overcome any hesitation.”

His chemistry with Sunshine Cruz made the experience easier. “She’s incredibly professional, kind, and supportive. Since she has more experience, she helped calm me whenever I felt pressured. Honestly, she was my childhood crush, so working with her was a dream come true.”

A Role That Pushes Boundaries

Enzo plays Migs, a young, adventurous photographer navigating relationships and self-discovery. He worked hard to embody the role in a way that would resonate with audiences. “I wanted my character to be someone that Sunshine’s character would genuinely be drawn to.”

To prepare for his love scenes, Enzo did extensive research, watching films with well-executed intimate moments. “I wanted to understand what looks good on camera, what to avoid, and how to make everything appear natural and effortless.”

Despite the sensual nature of the film, Enzo hopes audiences see Malamaya beyond its steamy scenes. “This isn’t just a sexy film—it’s a deep, artistic exploration of an artist’s struggles, played by Sunshine, and the challenges she faces in life and love.”

Working with Talented Directors

Under the direction of Danica Sta. Lucia and Leilani Chavez, Enzo found the creative process fulfilling. “They were open to collaboration, which made working with them enjoyable. I trust them completely, and I always strive to be a team player in every project.”

Malamaya will premiere at the Cinemalaya Film Festival from August 2 to 11 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and select cinemas. Its Gala Night is set for August 6 at CCP, followed by a nationwide commercial release on August 14.
