Carlos Yulo’s ‘Narcissistic’ Mother Gets Brutally Bashed by Gymnastics Community as Heartfelt Apology Goes Wrong: “I Am Sorry”

Carlos Yulo proved that nothing is impossible in front of a thunderous crowds at the Bercy Arena. He did the unthinkable by bagging Philippines’ first gold medal during the men’s floor finals. Not even a day later, he went on to claim another Olympic gold in the men’s vault finals during his second Olympic berth. While his historic feat catapulted the 24-year-old into the limelight, an unforeseeable rift has seemed to take the center stage instead.

It all came to a head when the gymnast shifted his base from Tokyo to Manila wanting to be closer to his girlfriend. However, his mother, Angelica Yulo, didn’t wholeheartedly agree with this, eventually distancing herself from him. Yulo decided to shed a light on what really went on behind close doors on TikTok – mismanaged finances and her openly supporting his rival during the Games. However, Angelica publicly apologized to the gymnast on August 8 and fans fail to sympathize with his grieving mother.

After opening up about his constrained relationship with his mother, Yulo had one last message for her. “My message to you Ma, is to heal and move on.” Angelica paid heed to this request and held a press conference with her lawyer Raymond Fortun. Her eyes welled up as she began, “Son, I am sorry. I understand some may think I’m only speaking now because of your success.” Even though she previously put her side of the story forward on Bombo Radyo, she now regrets it.

With a lump in her throat, she continued “I ask for your forgiveness as a concerned mother. You are mature enough to make your own decisions. Our door is always open, regardless of your financial status. I can’t take back my words, but your father and I are ready to talk with understanding whenever you’re ready to come home and resolve this.” Carlos Yulo had stated how his mother previously had access to his bank account and gymnastics incentives. However, when he gained access to it, he realized that she allegedly used some of the money for her expenses.

Just like her son, Angelica wanted to put an end to this feud. “Others don’t need to know our feud, as they don’t understand the full story. I pray for healing to lessen the pain that has been in my heart for a long time.” Carlos Yulo mentioned how he had already forgiven his mother a long time ago in the TikTok video. All he wanted them to do was celebrate his and every Filipino athlete’s hard work and sacrifice at the Summer Games.

Even though it looks like Yulo is willing to move past this, the same can’t be said about his fans. Many believed the apology was just for show, and proceeded to egg on Angelica. One fan stated, “Enough with the press cons, please. Settle this matter privately.  Congratulations, Carlos Yulo! You made us, Filipinos proud.” Many were baffled by why she refused to speak to him behind closed doors. Another fan agreed, “Please just celebrate his two Gold Medals!  No more controversy.  I’m praying for you !” However, not everyone was as forgiving.

A fan exclaimed, “One of the gold medal incentives: Apology from your narcissist mother. If she was sincere she should have made amends way before and in private.” Carlos Yulo will be receiving a long list of incentives consisting of a lifetime supply of ramen, free colonoscopy sessions when he turns 45 and more. Another fan had a different take on this, “Both sides were heard. Let us leave them to resolve this privately. Media and netizens should stop making these issues bigger. Supporting Carlos Yulo means respecting his family and privacy.” It’s safe to say no one wants to watch this continue on in the public eye.

One fan reiterated Carlos’ wish, “Let us celebrate the Victory of our Golden boy Carlos Yulo.  Ignore the noise Caloy.  Focus on what is important.  This is not the proper venue to discuss matters like that. Do not allow anyone to use your victory to their advantage.  Thank you for making us, Filipino’s Proud.  God Bless you Caloy.” Many are displeased by how Carlos Yulo’s victory has been upstaged by this incident and their indifference towards Angelica is a testament to that.
