Bea Alonzo admitted that her mother, Mary Anne Ranollo, was affected by Alonzo’s breakup with her ex-fiancé Dominic Roque, along with many rumors hounding the actress at the time.
Speaking to Boy Abunda in a “My Mother, My Story” interview, Alonzo recalled how her mother reacted to various news items that followed her split with Roque.
“She was very much affected, especially na maraming nasasabi tungkol sa’kin na hindi totoo. I think ‘yun ang pinakamalaking weight sa kanya (especially that many rumors were said about me that weren’t true. I think that held more weight to her),” she said.
Alonzo said while her breakup with Roque was painful, what hurt her the most was seeing her family being dragged into the allegations surrounding their split.
“Ang masakit lang sa akin is siyempre, nadadamay sila. ‘Yun ang medyo may sting kasi kasi sanay ako [in dealing with rumors] eh… matagal ko nang ginagawa ‘to. Pero kapag ‘yung family ko na ‘yung nadadamay tapos [gagawa] sila ng theories where ginagawang villain ang nanay ko, masakit,” she said.
(What’s painful for me is, of course, they’re dragged into it. It stings because I’m used to dealing with rumors. I’ve been doing this for a long time. But if my family gets involved and they make up theories where my mom is painted as the villain, it hurts.)
The “Widows’ War” star then recalled how her mother described her as someone “stupid” when it comes to love.
“Napakalaki ng puso niya. Kapag mamahalin ka niya, mamahalin ka niya nang buong buo,” she said. “Lagi niyang sinasabing tanga ako sa pag-ibig. Si Mama, hindi. For some reason, lahat ng ex niya, they were all really in love with her (She has a big heart. When she loves you, she will love you with all her heart. She always says I’m stupid in love. But my mom wasn’t. For some reason, all of her exes were really in love with her). She was the princess in her past relationships.”
During the interview, Alonzo also appeared in awe of her mother’s independence and how she can still live even without a man.
“Takot akong maiwan. Siguro may abandonment issues ako kasi I grew up without a father. Si mama, matapang talaga siya sa buhay (I’m scared of being left alone. I guess I have abandonment issues because I grew up without a father. My mom is really brave in life). Strip everything off of her and she’ll be fine,” she said.

Alonzo and Roque, who got engaged in July 2023, were supposed to tie the knot in 2024. However, they confirmed that they called off their wedding in February of this year.
In a July 2024 interview with Tatler Asia, Alonzo said their split was mutual as they “didn’t want to get married anymore.”
