Disney has released the official trailer for its much-anticipated live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch.

The trailer features Stitch crash-landing on Earth after escaping from the galactic federation. It then offers glimpses of his heartwarming friendship with Lilo, as they navigate life together in Hawaii.

“Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind,” Lilo told Stitch in the trailer.

The movie will be released in theaters on May 23.

Fans online were quick to react to the trailer.

“This is so goooood. Lilo is so adorable!” one fan commented.

“This trailer is just pure nostalgia for me. It’s also a blessing to have Chris Sanders doing Stitch again. It would NOT be the same without him,” another fan wrote.

Lilo & Stitch “is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family,” as per Disney.

Newcomer Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo, bringing the beloved character to life in her first major film role.

In a June 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Maia shared her reaction to landing the role. “When I found out I was going to be Lilo, my jaw literally dropped and I couldn’t even believe it,” she recounted.

The actress went on: “I rung my dad and I said, ‘I did it! I’m Lilo! I’m Lilo!’ And then they grabbed me and we jumped up and down. I was so excited!”

When asked how she relates to Lilo, Kealoha pointed out their shared love for creativity. “I would say we really love crafts. In terms of our rooms, she has a lot of toys in her room and I don’t really have toys. I would say I’m a crafty girl,” she relayed.

The film is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp. Aside from Maia, it also stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, and Hannah Waddingham, among others.

The animated Lilo & Stitch feature was released in 2002 and achieved a box office gross of $273 million.
