Kim Chiu couldn’t help but get emotional after she was greeted by fans during a mall show in Cebu on Saturday, March 15,  for her upcoming film “My Love Will Make You Disappear,” following her controversial “dasurv” (deserve) remark on “It’s Showtime.”

At the show, Chiu lamented that she was being bashed for something that is “not true,” at the same time admitting that she was scared that her film will be canceled.

“Sorry for crying… it’s been 19 years since I became an actress. Then, I’m bashed right away for something that is not true. Then I will receive comments from people saying they won’t watch the film,” she said in Bisaya, as recorded by one @immaria_3.

“But I was honestly scared because I am doing a mall show… Thank you very much. Sorry for feeling nostalgic right now,” Chiu further added.

Chiu’s concerns stemmed from remarks that she and her “Showtime” co-host Vhong Navarro made during the March 12 episode of “Tawag ng Tanghalan: All-Star Grand Reebok 2025” segment, wherein she said that those who feel like the right time has not come for them yet, “you deserve to bounce back in life!”

Some viewers believed this remark was alluding to former President Rodrigo Duterte, who had just been arrested by police upon the request of the international police (Interpol) to answer charges of crimes against humanity and face trial before the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands.

After the show, some avid supporters of Duterte claimed Chiu’s spiel really meant to say that the former leader “deserved to be jailed.” One supporter even pointed out that Duterte had 30 million supporters, some of whom may be her fans who might cancel her due to her “rash” comments.

The actress-host immediately clarified on her X (formerly Twitter) page that she was merely reading her script and was not making a cryptic dig at Duterte.

Chiu is partnered with her onscreen partner Paulo Avelino in “My Love Will Make You Disappear,” where she will portray Sari, a 30-something woman who believes she’s cursed after having her past lovers disappear from her life. Her fate changes when she falls for her landlord Jolo.

The film also stars Wilma Doesnt, Lovely Abella, Benj Manalo, Karina Bautista, Migs Almendras, and Martin Escudero.

She and Avelino recently bagged the German Moreno Power Tandem Award at the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC)’s 38th Star Awards for Television.
