Sassa Gurl voiced her support for senatorial candidate Heidi Mendoza in the May 2025 mid-term elections, underscoring the latter’s fight against “thieves” in the government.
The content creator-actress addressed her fans as she reminded them of the qualities of the candidate they should vote for in the elections, as seen in the video on Mendoza’s Facebook page on Wednesday, March 19.
“Syempre ‘di ba mga nakshie, dapat ang iboboto natin ay ‘yung galit sa magnanakaw, hindi magnanakaw, at syempre babantayan ang pondo natin. Korek, madam?” Sassa Gurl said, before panning the camera to show Mendoza joining the frame. The former Commission on Audit (COA) commissioner gamely answered in the affirmative, “Korek!”
(Of course, children, we should vote for someone who is against thieves, not a thief and who will safeguard public funds. Correct, madam?)
In a separate video, the pair talked about the LGBTQIA+ community and the budget of government agencies for gender development.
“Baklang kanal tayo, pero hindi tayo dapat nakatira sa literal na kanal (We are outspoken gays but that doesn’t mean we should literally live in drainage canals)!” Sassa Gurl said, to which Mendoza replied, “Tama ‘yon dahil kahit ang gobyerno natin ay kailangan kilalanin ang inyong karapatan at kakayahan.”
(That’s right because the government should acknowledge your rights and capabilities.)
Mendoza then noted that 5 percent of every agency’s budget is allocated for gender development.
“Ang challenge ko, gisingin natin ang mamamayan at ang LGBTQ community. Karapatan niyo ‘yan, pondo ng bayan ‘yan, at may share kayo d’yan,” she added.
(My challenge is for the public and the LGBTQ community to wake up. It is your right. It is public funds and you have a share in it.)
Mendoza is allied with reelectionist senators Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, whose cousin, the late former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III appointed her as commissioner of COA.
Aside from Sassa Gurl, other celebrities who endorsed politicians in the May polls are Nadine Lustre, Ogie Diaz, Melai Cantiveros, and Nora Aunor.
