Macaulay Culkin shares sweet reaction to brother Kieran Culkin's Oscar win

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Macaulay revealed that he only tuned in to watch the Best Supporting Actor category, which ended with Kieran taking home his first Oscar.

“Just the Best Supporting Actor. That’s the only thing I watched. True story, true story… I cried. And I was like, ‘I’m gonna see you later,’” he shared.

Did he expect his brother to bag the Oscar trophy?

“Of course. Let’s be real. We’re allowed to say that. Yeah, absolutely. He was front row, aisle, closest to the stairs. There was no way he was not going to win,” Macaulay remarked.

Kieran won Best Supporting Actor for his role in A Real Pain, triumphing over nominees Yura Borisov (Anora), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist), and Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown).

A Real Pain follows the story of “mismatched cousins [who] reunite for a tour through Poland to honor their beloved grandmother, but their old tensions resurface against the backdrop of their family history” as per its IMDb.

In the movie, Kieran played the role of Benji, David’s (Jesse Eisenberg) free-spirited cousin based in Binghamton, New York.

During his acceptance speech, Kieran reflected on his career and expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey.

“I have no idea how I got here. I’ve just been acting my whole life, it’s just been a part of what I do, so this is, I felt like this was never my trajectory, but however I got here, I know that Emily Gerson Sainz, my manager of 30 years, is because of you, thank you for being there for I lean on you for everything, so please don’t go anywhere. I’d be completely lost without you. I love you,” he remarked.

He also extended his appreciation to co-star and director Jesse Eisenberg, calling him a “genius,” and the production companies behind the film.

Kieran also shared a lighthearted moment about a deal he made with his wife, Jazz Charton, regarding their family. After jokingly asking for a third child following his Emmy win, Jazz promised him a fourth but only if he won an Oscar. As he accepted his Academy Award, Kieran playfully reminded her of their agreement, saying, “Jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you. I’m really sorry I did this again. And let’s get cracking on those kids. What do you say?”
