As she celebrates two more milestones in her career this year, singer Geneva Cruz thought it would only be fitting to hold an anniversary concert a few days after her 48th birthday next month. The April-born artist recently announced her two-night concert series called Gen Evolution which will be directed by her good friend and fellow Smokey Mountain alumni Jeffrey Hidalgo.
In a recent Instagram post, Geneva shared her excitement at another busy month of preparations ahead. “Hello, March! 🤗 I’m excited to embrace this month’s challenges leading up to my birthday and 35th year anniversary concerts at the Music Museum on April 4 and 5. I’m delighted about this new phase of my life,” she posted.
“This has always been part of my bucket list even from last year,” she shared. “I feel it’s high time to reacquaint the younger generation with my music and my brand of high-octane concert performance.”
From starting out in the biz as a young teen to forging a career as a singer and now as a songwriter, Geneva’s concert aims to echo the soundtrack of her times — from the glory days of radio to the tail-end of the New Wave era, up until the time when OPM reigned supreme.
“It’s a good story to share. By sharing my music, and the music from my time, I want my younger audience, the millennials, to appreciate the music from a creative level — the songwriting, the prose — which unfortunately we don’t see or hear much of these days. And since this happens shortly after my birthday, I want it to be a big party where I can celebrate with friends and fans alike,” she explained.
More than wanting to be known for just her music, Geneva has also worked hard to champion her passion for women empowerment. Not content with just being a fitness buff, she is also currently a reservist who earned the rank of sergeant in the Philippine Air Force’s Reserve Command last March 2022. She is active in the organization’s medical missions, tree-planting and clean-up events, as well as other grassroots outreach projects.
Just last December , she also composed her very first Christmas song, “When Christmas Comes”. It’s a little known fact that Geneva actually started songwriting when she was just 15.
“I’ve composed some songs that have been part of my past albums, starting from my first solo album when I was 15. Some of the songs I did include ‘Love Can Wait,’ ‘To Manila,’ ‘Love Is Here,’ ‘Set You Free,’ and ‘Peace’,” she admitted. “Writing has always been an outlet of mine. I’ve written more and composed the melodies on my unused files.”
Apart from her concert, Geneva has continued to perform for kababayans all over the country. In a recent event, the sexy singer admitted she experienced one of the most challenging moments, testing her passion as a performer.
In an Instagram post, she wrote, “Yesterday, I performed in #Abra and experienced the place in less than 24 hours. It was one of the most challenging moments of my life as a performer because I completely lost my voice due to a common cold with post-nasal drip. I faced a choice between going or not, but my heart wouldn’t allow me to back out since I had already given my word. I told myself I would go, and if I truly couldn’t perform, at least I would be there,” she narrated.
“After 35 years in the music industry here in the Philippines, I thought I had experienced it all, but there’s always room to grow,” she added. “I’m grateful to God for His guidance and unconditional love. Miracles happen when we begin and end with love in all that we do. 🙏🏼”
