Michelle and Barbie previously worked together on the 2010 movie Reign of Assassins.

The film starred Michelle as Zeng Jing, an assassin seeking a peaceful life after receiving guidance from a monk. However, when she defends herself and her husband from robbers, she inadvertently draws the attention of her former assassin clan.

Meanwhile, Barbie played the role of Zhang Jing, a formidable and ruthless assassin who is part of the Dark Stone group.

Directed by Su Chao-pin and co-directed by John Woo, the film was shot in China and Taiwan.

Barbie rose to international prominence in 2001 after starring in the hit Taiwanese series Meteor Garden as Shan Cai.

The series is a Taiwanese adaptation of the Japanese comic series Hana Yori Dango. The series follows the story of a working class girl, Shan Cai, and her entanglement with a group of rich and influential students known as the “F4” (Flower Four).

Barbie tragically passed away at the age of 48 from pneumonia. Her sister, Dee Hsu, shared the news of February 3 via her manager to the Taiwanese media.

“Thanks for all the concern. Over the Chinese New Year period, our entire family travelled to Japan for a holiday, and my most beloved, kindest elder sister Barbie came down with influenza-related pneumonia and has unfortunately left us,” the statement read as per Star ETToday according to a report by The Straits Times.

She went on: “I am thankful to be her sister in this life, and grateful that we have taken care of each other and kept each other company all these years. I will always be thankful to her and remember her. Shan (Barbie Hsu’s nickname), rest in peace. We love you always. Together remember forever.”
