Barbie Hsu‘s sudden passing due to flu and pneumonia in Japan has shocked the Asian entertainment industry. For the “Meteor Garden” star’s family, this unexpected tragedy turned what was meant to be a joyful New Year trip into a heartbreaking farewell. In the wake of her passing, public attention has turned to the well-being of her two children—11-year-old Wang Hsi-yueh (daughter) and 9-year-old Wang Hsi-lin (son), who lost their mother at such a young age.

On February 7, “163” published a concerning report about the distressing circumstances of Barbie Hsu’s children. Chinese media claim that Hsi-yueh and Hsi-lin have been neglected by their maternal family following their mother’s death. During their February 5 flight from Japan to Taiwan, images taken at the airport show that no adult family members were closely accompanying the children, nor were there staff assigned to protect them from the media.

The two children were seen navigating the airport alone, guided only by security personnel. As a result, paparazzi were able to capture clear images of them on the day their mother’s ashes were brought back home. Meanwhile, their stepfather, Koo Jun Yup, was heavily guarded by security, and their aunt, Dee Hsu, along with their grandmother, Huang Chun-mei, remained so discreet that not a single photo of them was captured by the press.

Additionally, concerns arose over the children’s clothing choices during their mother’s final homecoming. Hsi-yueh was seen wearing a white coat, while Hsi-lin wore a red jacket—colors considered inappropriate for mourning in Chinese culture, where black or dark colors are customary. Red, in particular, is seen as an absolute taboo during funerals. The family’s disregard for this cultural practice has raised concerns that the children could face public criticism for perceived disrespect toward their late mother.

Previously, ETtoday reported that Barbie Hsu’s daughter, Hsi-yueh, has been deeply affected by her mother’s passing, crying so much that her eyes became severely swollen. Given the emotional sensitivity of this period, Chinese media and the public believe that the two children should receive close care and emotional support rather than being left feeling abandoned and vulnerable.

As of now, the future of Wang Hsi-yueh and Wang Hsi-lin remains uncertain. According to legal regulations, their biological father, Wang Xiaofei, is entitled to custody following Barbie Hsu’s passing. He would also manage any assets left behind for the children.

However, reports suggest that Barbie Hsu’s family opposes this arrangement. On the evening of February 6, Koo Jun Yup publicly declared that he would “not allow any malicious individuals to approach the children” and would seek legal intervention to ensure their safety and proper upbringing. DJ Koo also emphasized that he would involve lawyers and legal authorities to safeguard the inheritance rights of Barbie Hsu’s children.
