Taiwanese actress Rainie Yang, who first gained recognition as Xiao You in Meteor Garden, paid tribute to her former co-star Barbie Hsu following her sudden passing.

In an Instagram story, Rainie shared a message with a solid black background to honor the late actress.

“Xiyuan (Hsu’s Mandarin name), thank you. I will miss you forever and love you,” Rainie posted.

Rainie played Shan Cai’s loyal and dependable best friend in the hit series, who later falls for one of the F4 members, Ximen, portrayed by Ken Chu.

The actress who played Xiao You later went on to lead other popular Taiwanese series, including Devil Beside You in 2005 and Miss No Good in 2008.

Meanwhile, her Meteor Garden co-star, Ken, had earlier shared a tribute to Barbie on both his Instagram and Weibo accounts.

In another translated post, Ken expressed his shock at the actress’s sudden passing, writing, “Sigh… A bolt from the blue…”

Barbie’s leading Meteor Garden man, Jerry Yan, who portrayed the angsty Dao Ming Si in the series, also expressed his condolences for the late actress earlier.

“I’m grateful to have met you. In your carefree, youthful days, you always said to live each day as if it were your last and to enjoy life. Now, may you walk slowly on your journey. From here on, in another world, may there be no troubles, and may the years be peaceful,” Jerry shared in a translated post.

Aside from her Meteor Garden co-stars, other artists who also worked with Barbie shared their tributes.

Taiwanese actor-singer Show Lo, who played Barbie’s leading man in the 2007 Taiwanese romantic series Corner with Love, shared his sympathies in an Instagram story.

“Rest in peace,” the actor posted.

In the series, Barbie played Xin Lei, a young woman from a wealthy family, while Show Lo portrayed Qin Lang, an aspiring artist who moves to Shanghai to pursue his dreams. The two accidentally meet when her car crashes into his bike at a street corner. This chance encounter sets the stage for an unexpected connection that changes both of their lives.

Along with Show Lo, Chinese actor and singer Huang Xiaoming, with whom the late actress worked in the 2010 series Summer’s Desire, was also devastated by the news.

In a translated Weibo post, the actor wrote, “I am still in shock and heartache at this moment. I can’t accept this bad news. It’s really hard. Fifteen years have passed like quicksand between fingers. When I think of the summer wind that year, there is always some sea salt in it. Xia Mo in the play is talking seriously, and she can always use a joke to dispel all fatigue outside the play. No matter when, the light in her eyes is like the strength and stubbornness in Yin Xiamo’s bones that never fades.”

He also praised the late actress for her kindness and remarkable personality.

“Her kindness, her righteousness, she rescued me like a female knight, and I have always been grateful. I heard that a truly brilliant soul will not be weathered by time, just like the bubbles in the sun are always colorful. I hope that on the other side where she goes, the cherry blossoms will never fall, and turn into the evening breeze to embrace the stars. In the series, Barbie played Xia Mo, while Huang Xiaoming portrayed Luo Xi. The two, orphans who grew up together, are torn apart by fate. As love, rivalry, and past wounds resurface, Xia Mo must decide between the two men who have shaped her life.

Summer’s Desire was Barbie’s final television series before her untimely passing, which was reportedly caused by pneumonia resulting from complications of influenza.
