During her lifetime, Barbie Hsu did not have a good relationship with her former mother-in-law.
After Barbie Hsu’s passing, Wang Xiaofei and his mother, Zhang Lan, were banned from livestreaming on Douyin and Weibo for exploiting the deceased, violating ethical standards and social norms. This ban meant that the mother and son lost their primary source of income—selling products online through livestreams—which had been their main livelihood in recent years.
However, they are now reportedly finding ways to bypass the ban and resume livestreaming. Zhang Lan’s main account has been restricted, but her team’s account remains active. This account has been renamed from “Zhang Lan Qiao Sheng” to “Zhang Lan 321 Qiao Man Zhao” and has announced its return to livestreaming. The account is backed by the Beijing Man Zhao Technology Company, which will stream under the company’s name. While Zhang Lan has not yet appeared on the livestreams, the background settings match those of her previous streams.

MC Yang Yang, who frequently hosted Zhang Lan’s livestreams, even declared that they had “risen from the ashes.” On social media, Yang Yang wrote:
“We have restarted—join us! We are always here, love is always here! See you tonight at 6 PM!”
Because of these actions, netizens suspect that Zhang Lan is circumventing the rules and will likely continue profiting off Barbie Hsu’s passing. Livestreaming has been her main source of income for years, and she is unlikely to give up such a sensational topic as Barbie Hsu. Even when Barbie was alive, Zhang Lan accused her of drug use, forcing the actress to publicly reveal negative drug test results to clear her name. Barbie Hsu later sued Zhang Lan for defamation.

According to ET Today, Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan are reportedly going to extreme lengths to exploit Barbie Hsu’s death because they are burdened with a massive debt of 4.5 billion TWD (over 1.5 trillion VND). In addition, they are allegedly involved in illegal business activities, including money laundering and setting up trust funds in Taiwan under relatives’ names to hide illicit earnings. Many speculate that this enormous debt is why Wang Xiaofei has been staging dramatic performances after Barbie Hsu’s death—to gain sympathy and prepare for future legal battles over inheritance and child custody against his former wife’s family.
