Meteor Garden actress Barbie Hsu passed away at 48 due to influenza-induced pneumonia, as confirmed by her sister Dee Hsu on February 3.
According to Dee, their family marked the Lunar New Year holiday by traveling to Japan, where her “dearest and most kindhearted sister” unfortunately died.
In a statement, Dee was quoted as saying, “I was grateful to be her sister in this life and that we got to care for and spend time with each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her!”
The same photo also happened to be the last image Barbie’s husband shared on Instagram with them together in the frame.
In another family photo Dee shared on Instagram last December, Barbie was seen in a celebratory mood, clad in a Christmas-themed sweater and a red headband while holding a glass of red wine.
“Being with family is just happy,” Dee captioned, wishing everyone to stay safe and healthy.
Barbie debuted in the entertainment scene in 1994 with her sister Dee; together they formed a pop duo called S.O.S. (Sisters of Shu). They later changed their name to A.S.O.S. They also co-hosted the variety show Guess, the entertainment news program 100% Entertainment, and the cooking show Gourmet Secrets of the Stars.
Barbie is survived by her South Korean husband, DJ Koo, and her two kids whom she shared with her ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
