Demi Lovato opened up about experiencing an eating disorder on social media to raise awareness.

Demi Lovato's biggest revelations from 'Child Star' documentary

In her Instagram stories, Demi encouraged others who are struggling to know they are not alone in this fight and that they can always reach out for support.

“I wanted to remind all of you who may be struggling that you are WORTH RECOVERY and it’s more than okay to ask for help,” she wrote.

The pop star also revealed her personal struggle with an eating disorder.

“I’ve struggled with an eating disorder for many years. It’s something that I always struggle with in the back of my mind,” Demi added.

Demi then noted how focusing on her healing and talking to others helped silence the voice in her head: “But the more I work on myself, talk to others and put myself first, the quieter that voice gets.”

The ‘Heart Attack’ hitmaker assured those who also have the condition that the road to recovery is not a straight path, but by nourishing your mind and body with care, you can take a step forward.

“Recovery isn’t a straight path – it’s full of ups, downs, and everything in between. But every time I choose to feed my body, challenge my thoughts, and show myself kindness, I’m taking a step forward,” Demi pointed out.

She admitted that there are still challenging moments, but she doesn’t let them hinder her healing.

“There are tough days, but they don’t define me. What defines me is my strength, my resilience, and my commitment to healing,” the pop star mentioned.

With words of affirmation for herself, Demi shared that she will not be defined by her condition and reminded others that those who struggle with it are so much more than their eating disorder, assuring that recovery can be achieved step by step.

“I deserve a life free from the grip of my eating disorder, and I’m fighting for that every single day. If you’re on this journey too, know that you’re not alone. We are so much more than our struggles. One day, one meal, one moment at a time,” Demi explained.

The singer-actress ended the social media posts with some meaningful hashtags: “#RecoveryIsPossible #HealingInProgress #ProgressNotPerfection.”

In a 2023 interview, Demi revealed that she first sought treatment at the age of 18. She also shared that she wished she had someone to turn to when she was younger struggling with an eating disorder and starving herself.

The pop star opened up about how growing up in Hollywood, where being thin was the ideal, took a toll on her mental health. She shared that this experience is one of the main reasons she’s so passionate about helping others who are struggling too.
