Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo shared an emotional moment from her GUTS tour, which took place during her performance of “Enough for You” while seated on a giant, hanging moon installation.

The singer relayed that when she was performing the song in the Philippines, she was thinking of her Filipino great grandfather.

“I was thinking of my grandpa that moment who never got to come see me perform, let alone in the Philippines,” she said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “And so I was thinking about him and it made me really emotional.”

Olivia performed at a sold-out show at the Philippine Arena on October 5. The “Drivers License” singer highlighted that performing in the Philippines was such a meaningful moment.

“It was amazing. You know, I’ve never been [to the Philippines] and I always wanted to go my whole life and so it was such a meaningful moment to get to connect with my Filipino fans. And they were so warm and welcoming,” she remarked.

Olivia’s great-grandfather immigrated to the US from the Philippines during his teenage years.

“My dad grew up in a house where they were always making Filipino food, his grandpa always spoke Tagalog. All of those traditions have trickled down to our generation. Every Thanksgiving, we have lumpia, and things like that,” the singer said in an interview with Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) in 2018.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the singer described performing in the Philippines as a special milestone.

“I’m so excited to be teaming up with American Express to bring the GUTS World Tour to Manila. This is such a special milestone for me to not only be visiting the Philippines for the first time but performing here for my fans,” she said in an interview with Billboard.

Olivia further highlighted: “I’m so proud of my Filipino heritage, so being able to bring this experience to the Philippines means the world to me,” she remarked.

Net proceeds of Olivia’s GUTS concert in Manila were donated to nonprofit organization Jhpiego. Olivia personally visited their office while she was in Manila.
