Following Barbie Hsu’s death, her ex-husband, Wang Xiaofei, quickly flew back to Taiwan. Images of him with swollen, tear-streaked eyes, wandering in the rain, have moved many netizens. However, Wang Xiaofei is now facing criticism for “putting on a show” and “fake reactions” in response to Barbie Hsu’s death.

In particular, on the afternoon of February 4, he commented under an old video of the couple from a TV show, writing, “Wife, I miss you so much”, before later editing the comment to, “I miss you so much“. Even more shocking, Wang Xiaofei also left the shocking comment of, “The dead one should have been me.”

His comments quickly became a trending topic, reaching No.1 on the hot search list of famous Chinese SNS platform Weibo. However, instead of sympathy, Wang Xiaofei faced a storm of criticism. Many netizens accused him of being hypocritical—mistreating Barbie Hsu when she was alive but now pretending to grieve.

One netizen shared, “I asked my husband to analyze Wang Xiaofei’s behavior from a man’s perspective—to see if he truly loved her or was just acting. My husband said that if he were truly heartbroken, he wouldn’t even be in the mood to comment like this. Just look at Barbie Hsu’s current husband—he hasn’t said a word, completely disappeared, and is grieving in silence.”

Meanwhile, there were others harsh comments such as, “How long is he going to keep up this act?”, “If he’s really that heartbroken, then what does that make his current wife?”, “If you miss her so much, why not follow her?”, and “He deserves an Oscar for this performance.”

However, their relationship turned turbulent after their divorce in 2021, leading to multiple lawsuits and public disputes on social media. Barbie Hsu later remarried her former boyfriend from the 1990s, DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup), while Wang Xiaofei moved on with social media influencer Mandy.

Following news of Barbie Hsu’s passing, Wang Xiaofei changed his profile picture to black, only to replace it shortly after with a photo of himself and his daughter. This move also sparked controversy online.
