The shocking news of Barbie Hsu’s passing has left the Asian public in disbelief on February 3rd. It is reported that the actress contracted influenza, which led to severe pneumonia and ultimately her death while traveling in Japan. According to the latest report from media outlet China Times, Barbie Hsu’s family has arrived in Japan to see the late actress one last time and to handle her funeral arrangements. Her mother was reportedly devastated, choking back tears beside her daughter’s body.

Meanwhile, producer Wang Wei Zhong, who is a close family friend of Barbie Hsu, revealed that the entire family is overwhelmed with grief and unable to accept the reality that the “Meteor Garden” star has passed away.

However, as the pillar of the family, Barbie Hsu’s mother has been trying to stay strong in order to complete the cremation procedures and bring her daughter’s ashes home for burial.

Answering to Taiwanese media in an interview, the actress’ mother said, “First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the concern everyone has shown for Barbie Hsu and our family during this difficult time. Since her passing, we have been deeply heartbroken. As a result, we have not been able to respond to calls from the media, colleagues, or friends. Please show us some sympathy. To bring Barbie home, we are facing numerous complicated legal procedures in Japan. Therefore, we ask for more time to resolve these matters abroad.”

Most notably, Barbie Hsu’s mother also pleaded with journalists and the public not to swarm the airport, funeral venue, or burial site when the family brings her daughter’s ashes back home. She shared that this was also one of Barbie Hsu’s wishes.

“My daughter loved peace and hated being followed and scrutinized in public. She never openly expressed this, but as her mother, I know her wishes well. Therefore, I hope everyone will understand and help us fulfill Barbie Hsu’s final wish,” she also stated.

On the other hand, according to the latest information from a tour guide, Barbie Hsu contracted influenza symptoms, including coughing and asthma, when she departed for Japan with her family on January 29th (the first day of Lunar New Year). On January 31st (the third day of Lunar New Year), she visited a small hospital in Hakone for emergency care due to her deteriorating health.

By February 1st, her condition worsened. Her husband, Koo Jun-yup, along with her mother-in-law and two children, took her to another small hospital in town for emergency treatment. Concerned about her worsening condition and suspecting Influenza A, the tour guide urged them to transfer Barbie Hsu to a major hospital in Tokyo for treatment. Later on on the night of February 1st, the actress became critically ill and was rushed to the hospital for a third emergency visit, before passing away on the morning of February 2nd.

The tour guide alleged that if Barbie Hsu’s family had taken her to a large hospital in Tokyo from the beginning—instead of spending time going to a smaller hospital in Hakone that failed to diagnose her condition—perhaps the late actress could have survived.

On the other hand, Barbie Hsu’s husband previously expressed his grievances and sorrow in shock. Her ex-husband, on the other hand, drew criticisms for his actions following the late actress’ death.
