Following Barbie Hsu’s passing, businessman Wang Xiaofei and his mother, Zhang Lan, have faced severe criticism for allegedly exploiting the Meteor Garden star’s death to gain publicity.

On February 10, ETtoday reported that a social media account named Emmy Drama Time caused a stir by revealing why Wang Xiaofei and his mother insisted on “draining” Barbie Hsu even after her passing.

According to this account, Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan owe a staggering 4.5 billion TWD (over 1.5 trillion VND). Moreover, they have been involved in illegal business activities, including money laundering and setting up a trust fund in Taiwan under the names of their relatives to conceal illicit financial transactions.

The Reason Behind Their Desperation

Emmy Drama Time revealed that Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan are currently drowning in debt exceeding 1.5 trillion VND.

“Why are Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan in debt for 4.5 billion TWD? The truth is that when they sold South Beauty to a private investment fund, they falsified revenue reports. After the investment fund conducted a document review, they discovered the fraud and took legal action against Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan. The court ruled that Zhang Lan must compensate the investors with 4.5 billion TWD. However, upon receiving the payment from the investors, Zhang Lan transferred the money to Taiwan and set up a trust fund under Wang Xiaofei’s name and that of her relatives. The Wang family then gradually withdrew the money from the trust, transferring it into seven different accounts to purchase real estate in New York, USA. To this day, the court is still working to recover the 4.5 billion TWD that Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan misappropriated,” the account alleged.

This revelation has shocked the Chinese public. Many netizens speculate that Wang Xiaofei’s erratic behavior after Barbie Hsu’s death was a desperate attempt to shape his image, gain sympathy, and prepare for the legal battle over inheritance and child custody against his late wife’s family. So far, Zhang Lan and Wang Xiaofei have not responded to the accusations of illegal business dealings and overwhelming debt.
