David Licauco Opens Up About Friendship with Barbie Forteza: “What if?”
David Licauco recently opened up about his friendship with Barbie Forteza, admitting that the thought of “what if” they were a couple had crossed his mind. This revelation, made during a lie-detector test segment on Bea Alonzo’s vlog, left fans curious about their dynamic, especially given Barbie’s real-life relationship with Jak Roberto.
The “What If” Question
David initially answered “No” when asked if he ever imagined being in a relationship with Barbie. However, the lie detector revealed otherwise, leading him to laugh and admit, “What if?” He quickly clarified his stance, saying, “Siyempre, I respect yung relationship nila,” referring to Barbie and Jak.
Bea Alonzo shared her own similar experience with John Lloyd Cruz, which David agreed with, emphasizing that such thoughts don’t necessarily mean taking action.
David’s Take on Jak Roberto
When asked if he thought Jak felt jealous of him, David confidently responded, “No.” He explained, “We’re friends. Artista rin kasi siya, so I think he knows all the ins and outs of this industry.”
David also praised Barbie for being a supportive and assuring partner, saying, “Knowing Barbie, she’s a good person. I think she’s a good partner also.”
Their Rocky Start
Interestingly, David revealed that Barbie didn’t like him during their early days of working together on Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune. According to David, Barbie found him difficult because he was often late and didn’t apologize.
“I asked her, ‘Bakit mo ba ko hate dati?’ and she said, ‘Lagi kang late, tapos hindi ka nagsosorry.’”
David explained that his tardiness was due to his struggle with sleep apnea, a condition that disrupts his breathing while sleeping. “So, stressed ako. Paggising ko ng umaga, I’m stressed also. I have to work out, I have to meditate for me to be normal,” he shared.
A Bumpy First Impression
David also recounted their first-ever conversation, which started awkwardly. “First sentence ko sa kanya, ‘Uy, Barbie, breadwinner ka ba?’ Ang labo ko rin naman talaga,” he said with a laugh.
Although his approach was clumsy, David later explained that he had heard about Barbie’s role as a breadwinner and admired her for it, but his delivery was far from ideal.
From Tension to Friendship
Despite their rough start, David and Barbie have since built a strong friendship. Reflecting on their successful pairing in Maria Clara at Ibarra, David acknowledged their chemistry, saying, “This is the love team that many people really supported.”
Now, their bond is stronger than ever, proving that even rocky beginnings can lead to meaningful friendships.
