MANILA — The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Tuesday sought help in looking for the perpetrator behind the arrow-shooting of animals in Mandaluyong City.

In a Facebook post, PAWS raised alarm over “the recent cases of cruelty involving the same modus operandi” after it was informed of an incident of a cat being shot with an arrow in the city.

“If you are the pet owner of this cat or have any information about the individual responsible for targeting and shooting arrows at animals in the area, we urge you to come forward so we can work together to seek justice,” the organization said.

The latest case involved a male cat who was brought to a city veterinarian in Mandaluyong last Thursday after being “mercilessly shot with an arrow.”

While the veterinarian was able to provide medical attention, PAWS stressed on the need to hold perpetrators accountable.

“We must stand as the voice for these animals by duly reporting cruelty incidents and pursuing legal action. Filing criminal charges is crucial in ending animal cruelty for good,” it said in its post.

Apart from the incidents in Mandaluyong, other cases of animal cruelty have been reported in other parts of the country. In February, five dogs were found dead in a backyard in Agoo, La Union after being allegedly poisoning by a neighbor who suspected them of killing chickens.

In Murcia, Negros Occidental, a group rescued an “aspin” bog after it was shot multiple times with Indian arrows.
