Coco Martin extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of indie actor Kristofer King by visiting his wake at Rizal Funeral Homes in Pasay City on February 25. During his visit, Martin, who had worked with King in several independent films, also brought a wreath of flowers and spent time with King’s widow, Joan “Nikki” Alegre Reyes, and their children.
Reyes shared that Martin, who had worked closely with King in projects like Masahista (2005) and Serbis (2008), expressed concern about the funeral expenses. After learning about the financial difficulties the family was facing, Martin offered to shoulder all the funeral costs.
Martin also spoke with Reyes about the funeral expenses, and she offered to cover all of it.
“She asked me, ‘How much is everything going to cost? What happened? Why did he pass away? Why so sudden?’ I explained everything to her,” Reyes shared.
“Then she said to me, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything.’ Oh my God! It felt like heaven and earth had fallen on me!”
“I told her, ‘I’m glad I met you. Because I was planning to ask for your help. I know that if it’s you, just a snap of your fingers, and everything will be fine.’ She replied, ‘It’s okay. I’ll handle it,’” she added.
King’s sudden death, though the cause remains unclear, was linked to several health issues, including diabetes, pneumonia, heartburn, and sciatica. His family was able to secure his death certificate from Adventist Medical Center in Pasay City on February 27, and his final resting place will be at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City on March 3.
Kristofer King was an influential figure in the Philippine indie film industry. Known for his exceptional talent and raw performances, he played significant roles in some of the country’s most critically acclaimed films.
King made his mark in the 2005 film Masahista (The Male Masseuse), a ground-breaking project in Philippine cinema that explored complex themes of sexuality and human relationships. His portrayal of a gay masseuse brought him critical recognition and showcased his range as an actor.
In 2008, King collaborated once again with director Brillante Mendoza in the film Serbis, a gritty, intense drama set in a rundown movie house.
His work in Serbis solidified his reputation as a versatile actor capable of handling deeply challenging roles. King was also seen in mainstream projects, including his role in Martin’s hit TV show Ang Probinsyano, where he was part of the cast, further cementing his place in Philippine entertainment.
Despite his health struggles, which included diabetes and other ailments, King remained dedicated to his craft until his untimely passing.
His death left a significant void in the indie film community, where he was revered not only for his acting ability but also for his commitment to the art form.
