She has captured the hearts of Filipinos and many across Asia with her portrayal of Shan Cai in the 2001 Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden. The series, an adaptation of the Japanese manga “Hana Yori Dango,” became a cultural phenomenon in the Philippines, introducing audiences to Asian dramas and making Barbie a household name. Today, we remember her for life and her fashion moments.

The Taiwanese actress began her entertainment career in the mid-1990s as part of the pop duo S.O.S. (Sisters of Shu) with her younger sister, Dee Hsu. The duo later rebranded as ASOS and gained popularity for their lively performances and engaging television hosting. However, it was Barbie’s transition to acting that truly showcased her talent. Her role as the resilient and kind-hearted Shan Cai in Meteor Garden resonated deeply with viewers, solidifying her status as a leading actress in Southeast Asia.
