Meteor Garden actress Barbie Hsu passed away at 48 due to influenza-induced pneumonia, as confirmed by her sister Dee Hsu on February 3. According to Dee, their family marked the Lunar New Year holiday by traveling to Japan, where her “dearest and most kindhearted sister” unfortunately died.

In a statement, Dee was quoted as saying, “I was grateful to be her sister in this life and that we got to care for and spend time with each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her!”

While neither Barbie nor Dee had social media posts about their Japan trip, Dee did share holiday photos with her sister and the rest of their family last December. In the photo, surrounded by her family, Barbie smiled brightly beside her husband, Koo Jun Yup (DJ Koo), whom she married in 2022. In her caption, Dee thanked God because they could get together. She also complimented her sister Barbie whom she fondly calls “Big S,” sharing that she shines without makeup. She ended her post by writing, “Let’s be young together in the Year of the Snake.”

In another family photo Dee shared on Instagram last December, Barbie was seen in a celebratory mood, clad in a Christmas-themed sweater and a red headband while holding a glass of red wine.

Barbie debuted in the entertainment scene in 1994 with her sister Dee; together they formed a pop duo called S.O.S. (Sisters of Shu). They later changed their name to A.S.O.S. They also co-hosted the variety show Guess, the entertainment news program 100% Entertainment, and the cooking show Gourmet Secrets of the Stars.

Barbie is survived by her South Korean husband, DJ Koo, and her two kids whom she shared with her ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei.
